Weekly Reading Wrap Up

The Trouble With Dukes by Grace Burrowes (audio) #1
The last thing Hamish wants is to be the Duke of Murdoch.  They call him the Duke of Murder because of war gossip. His family is in London for some shopping and he can't wait to go home to Scotland.  Megan Windham has trouble seeing which makes her somewhat of a social outcast.  Thankfully, her family's position helps in this regard.  She is being blackmailed due to some letters she wrote to Sir Fletcher during the war.  He is in need of serious money and her dowry will solve those problems when he forces her to marry him.  Hamish and Megan meet and their chemistry sizzles, but each has reasons why they cannot act on their desires. Hamish is willing to help Megan get her letters back so she can be free of Fletcher. As they spend time together it becomes clear that they are meant to be together and can rescue each other.  James Langton did a great job with the accents, even though at times his female voices got a bit too high for me.  It was great to connect with the Windham family and I look forward to the next story in this series.

The Chosen by J.R. Ward #15
This is book #15 in the Blackdagger Brotherhood series. It is Layla and Xcor's story. A couple that are completely opposite.  She is of the chosen and he is of the rebel faction wanting to take over.  Her former position allowed her to discover a secret about Xcor that could help.  Will she reveal it? Layla is the mother of Quinn's twins and her choices cause serious consequences. This book was a bit of a mess for me.  I didn't feel the chemistry between Layla and Xcor that I wanted.  Quinn was a hot mess, but I do feel that some of his decisions were true to his character.  Not sure what is going on with V and Jane, and fear its direction. I do like Lassiter's new position and look forward to see where it takes him.  The set up with Trez is coming too soon. Throe is the scary bad guy and look forward to see what trouble he causes. Hope book 16 is a better read for me.

What Light by Jay Asher
Every year Sierra and her family leave their Oregon tree farm after Thanksgiving to sell their Christmas trees in California.  With the big box stores selling trees the days of tree farms selling directly to customers may be over.  Sierra want to make this year extra special especially if it is the last.  She meets Caleb and is intrigued by him until she is warned about his past. Caleb keeps stopping by and purchasing trees. Sierra is intrigued and ignores the warnings and finds out the truth. I had higher expectations for this sweet contemporary YA read.

The House Husband by Duane Swierczynski (audio Bookshots)
Harold loves being a stay at home dad.  His personal time is spent righting wrongs. Homicide Detective Teaghan's first day back after maternity leave is a family found dead in their home. Her partner is concerned for her and it makes her mad.  Something is off about the crime scene and she is determined to figure it out.  When her partner's family ends up dead, she knows she is missing something.  A fast paced short story with a great twist. Fred Berman does a fantastic job with narrating.

Spring was very kind this week.  It was sunny with mild temps.  Enjoying the sun every day is so nice.  This may be the week that all our renovations are complete.

I didn't love Thirteen Reasons Why so I'll probably skip What Light.

Sorry What Light didn't meet expectations. I really liked 13 Reasons (unlike Kathy).

I enjoyed The Dry...hope you do, too.

I am curious about Jay Asher's books, since I've been watching 13 Reasons Why.

I want to know more about The House Husband.

Enjoy your week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

I hope the renovations are done soon, for your sake! I imagine you are ready by now. :-) The House Husband sounds like a good one. I have read another of Duane Swierczynski's books and really enjoyed it. Have a great week, Nise'!

A book about Christmas tree farmers. Huh. For the last bunch of years we've been using a potted juniper. It spends most of the year on our balcony and then in November I trim it back into a Christmas tree shape and bring it inside.

It was a busy week of reading, Girl Scouts, the Mandarin Showcase, and boxing up books. Come see what I'm reading.

Oh dear, I stopped reading the BDB books although reading he spin off, I don't like that little comment about V and Jane!

The House Husband looks really good. I've been wanting to read James Patterson's Bookshots. Maybe I should try it on audio.

I love the cover of What Light. I'll have to check that one out. And The River at Night sounds really good. Enjoy your week and I hope you have great reads.

I sort of felt the same way about What Light. It wasn't bad. It was cute, but I did expect more. The most memorable part for me, was this idea forgiveness that was woven throughout the story.

Oo The River at Night sounds good! Although, I think I would be scared to be on a river at night, honestly. I am a little weird about being on the water, for someone living right next to the Detroit River. Lol.

This weather has been fabulous!! Have a great week.
