Weekly Reading Wrap Up (IMWAYR?/SP)

The Sentinel by Lee Child and Andrew Child  #25

Jack Reacher is in Nashville and decides it is time to leave.  He stops in a small town and witnesses an attempted abduction of a guy off the street.  He sees the guy has no clue what is going down and intervenes.  Rusty is currently the most hated man in town and that intrigues Jack.  He finds out that Rusty is an IT guy and is sure that a mistake has been made and all he needs to do it figure it out to get his job back.  Jack being Jack stays to help and finds himself embroiled in a mess, that only Jack can untangle, Reacher style.

Six Months by Dannika Dark #2 (audio)

Second book in this series features Reno of the Cole Pack and human April.  April's family has left her with their debts which she is trying to pay back.  She decides to borrow from her job to pay off the loan shark with a plan to pay it back immediately.  Things don't go as planned and trouble brews.  Nicole Poole narrated this installment, but I did not like the voice she chose for April.  She comes across as whiney to me instead of a young girl who needs some control and stability in her life.  I will however continue listening to the series that she narrates.

As the clues are revealed you wonder how reliable he is as a witness and narrator.  Secrets and twists abound to make this a page turning novel.

Weekly Reading Wrap Up (IMWAYR?/SP)

Wild At Heart by K.A. Tucker

Calla decides to return to Alaska with Jonah.  She tried living without him in Toronto and was miserable.  She knows it will be a challenge to reinvent herself despite the conditions of where they live in Alaska.  Jonah is willing to do what it takes to help her adjust before returning to his job as a bush pilot. Calla will be stretched beyond her imagination. Great characters and wonderful setting make this sequel a delight.

Cobble Hill by Cecily Von Ziegesar (audio)

This is a story of four families that live in a Brooklyn neighborhood. Each family has it's own quirkiness, some annoying.  Their lives intersect with each other in different ways which makes this an interesting story. Fantastically narrated by Pete Simonelli which kept me listening when I probably would have put the book down.

Deep In The Valley by Robyn Carr #1

June returns home to her small town to a practice begun by her father.  As the practice grows she decides it is time to hire another Doctor.  John Stone leaves a big city practice to take this job and seems a perfect fit until his past follows. They have a variety of patients that figure prominently in the story.  Once incident brings a possible love interest into June's life, which for the time being has to be kept secret.  Look forward to revisiting this small town and its characters.

Weekly Reading Wrap Up (Sp/IMWAYR?)

Daylight
By David Baldacci #3
FBI Agent Atlee is still on the trail of what really happened to her  twin sister Mercy over 20 years ago.  She finds herself still on leave and in New Jersey following the latest lead, which always seem to embroil her in a local case.  She teams up with CID John Puller and by helping him with his case she gets help with hers.  This time she learns who really kidnapped her sister and why, now the question is, is she still alive?  Plenty of action and twists that bring attention unwanted attention on them and threaten their lives.

Someone to Romance
by Mary Balogh #7
The Westcott family has had their share of set backs.  Things with most of her family member and friends are getting back on tract.  Lady Jessica has decided that at 25 to get married and settles in for the London season to do just that. Gabriel has returned to London after years in America to settle in to his inheritance.  One that he really doesn't want and has to wade through some painful issues to reclaim.  He meets Lady Jessica and realizes she is just what he needs and sets out to marry her.  Jessica is anything but cooperative as she wants romance that leads to love.  Will he figure it out in time?  A good installment in this series.

This Time Is Different
by Mae Wood (audio)
Thomas ends up at the dentist's office after being hit in the jaw with a bat at softball.  Amy is an orthodontist, but is on call and patches him up for the weekend.  Thomas in a sedated daze spouts his love for her.  After the weekend he returns for a follow-up and is embarrassed as his teammate got it all on video.  He apologizes, but finds himself intrigued. Amy is a single mom to a teenager and Thomas's kids are grown, which is a hurdle they need to overcome if they go forward with this relationship.  A bit of family drama, but not much.  The fact that they were older drew me to the audio, but it got lost in the story and was a bit of a disappointment.  Over all a nice story of second chances. Narrated by the talented duo of Emma Wilder and Sebastian York.

If Wishes Were Earls
by Elizabeth Susan Boyle (audio) #3
Harriet has loved Roxley since she was a young girl.  Roxley returns her love, but is embroiled in a situation that keeps them apart and him having to marry another.  Harry is determined despite Roxley wanting to keep her safe to get involved.  I listened to this and therefore had a hard time distinguishing between the past and present.  Overall all it would have been better had I read this one although Susan Duerden does an excellent job narrating.

Written in Red
by Anne Bishop #1
Meg has escaped her captures.  She is a blood prophet and is used for her talent.  She ends up in a town where The Others tolerate humans.  All she wants to do is rest and recover.  Meg applies for the human liaison job and surprisingly she is chosen by Simon Wolfguard the leader of the town. He can tell she is something other than human as she doesn't smell like prey.  Simon figures to keep an eye on her by keeping her close.  Meg fits into the job well and is liked by all. Her past is soon discovered and threatens Lakeside, will they protect her as one of their own or protect themselves.  This story quickly grabbed my attention and I couldn't put it down.  Can't wait to get to the second book in the series.

Sea Glass Island
by Sherryl Woods #3
Samantha is in transition, rethinking her acting career as parts are just not coming her way. She is home for her sister's wedding. Ethan is a veteran and has opened a practice in town.  Neither are looking for a relationship, but their matchmaking family keeps scheming to get them together.  Will they resist or find that they can work through their issues together for a chance at love? A nice conclusion to the trilogy.

Penny For Your Secrets by Anna Lee Huber #3

Along Came A Duke by Elizabeth Boyle (audio) #1
Tabitha is a spinster that has recently come into an inheritance with conditions to be married to a specific gentleman.  She is glad to be getting away from her aunt and uncle who treat her terribly. After an accidental meeting with Christopher whom she really doesn't care for, she can't stop thinking about him.  He doesn't understand how this spinster has caught his attention and he is determined to not let her be used for her fortune.  Tabby asks him to ruin her to get her out of the marriage.  When he agrees, things so all kinds of wrong.  Will they put a stop to this plot and find love together?  Witty, fun and completely entertaining.  Narrated by the brilliant Susan Duerden.

A Pressing Engagement by Anna Lee Huber #4.5
Kiera is more than happy to take on a couple of inquiries to escape all the stress of her upcoming marriage to Gage.  She is looking forward to marrying him, but the more her sister plans the more it stresses Kiera.  She receives a necklace that has a history she wants to uncover before accepting. Also they are asked to retrieve a journal that has been hidden in a writing desk that now belongs to someone else. So glad we get to attend the wedding of these two beloved characters.

Shades of Twilight by Linda Howard (audio)
Family dysfunction over the top with too much ickiness that talented narrator Natalie Ross could not overcome. This murder mystery/love story would have been so much better without the family connection the author chose.

It was a strange week of reading.  None of the books were great, a couple I put down a few times.  Did get up the Christmas decorations earlier than normal, probably because the books were not holding my attention.
