Charley Davidson Blog Tour - Summoned to Thirteenth Grave

Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper extraordinaire, is pissed. She’s been kicked off the earthly plane for eternity—which is exactly the amount of time it takes to make a person stark, raving mad. But someone’s looking out for her, and she’s allowed to return after a mere hundred years in exile. Is it too much to hope for that not much has changed? Apparently it is. Bummer.

She’s missed her daughter. She’s missed Reyes. She’s missed Cookie and Garrett and Uncle Bob. Now that she’s back on earth, it’s time to put to rest burning questions that need answers. What happened to her mother? How did she really die? Who killed her? And are cupcakes or coffee the best medicine for a broken heart? It all comes to a head in an epic showdown between good and evil in this final smart and hilarious novel.

Charley made a decision in the last novel that opened up a portal and allowed the Shades to arrive.  They are slowly taking over Albuquerque and if they don't figure out how to close it, all is lost. Charley has a few clues that she and Reyes have to quickly unravel. Meanwhile she also has to come up with a way to keep their daughter Beep safe until it is her time. Fast paced with signature snark makes this last novel in the series thoroughly enjoyable. Here's hoping that a spin-off series is in the making.

Where It All Began:
First Grave On The Right

·         The concept for First Grave came about while Darynda was working as a sign language interpreter in her hometown. She stole many of the names from students at the schools where she worked, including Reyes, Garrett, and Amber. As far as Darynda knows, they have all forgiven her for her thievery.

This debut novel introduces Charley Davidson, private investigator and grim reaper. She not only sees dead people, they help her solve cases before they cross over.  Charley knew from an early age that she had something different. She kept it quiet growing up because it freaked too many people out. She has been having some crazy dreams and is trying to figure them out. Who he is a major part of the story. Great secondary characters, lots of humor and snark make this a great beginning to this series. Loved it the second time around.

Heart On Fire Giveaway + Griffin's POV story

Heart on Fire

The riveting conclusion to The Kingmaker Chronicles coming January 2018!

GODS. I’M AN IDIOT.

Without Griffin—and apparently a few meddling Gods—to push me along, I’d still be telling fortunes at the circus, lying about my past, ignoring my future, and living as far away from my tyrant mother as humanly possible.

True understanding thuds into place. Hope isn’t just an abstract concept; it’s me. Flesh and blood me. Griffin knew it all along. Probably everyone did. I’m an idea in human form._I have the power of the Gods at my fingertips. The only thing ever stopping me has been me.

Hot Pursuit - Black Knights, Inc.+Giveaway

He puts the hot...
Christian Watson, a former SAS officer and current BKI operator, never thought he would return to England after a terrible turn of events forced him to abandon his homeland. But now he's back on British soil where old enemies are determined to do him in. Fighting for his life is pretty much SOP for Christian. Doing it with the beautiful, bossy Emily Scott in tow is another matter entirely.

In hot pursuit.
Emily lost her coveted job at the CIA because of a colleague turned rogue, and now she has just one rule when it comes to men: they're for recreational purposes only. But when she and Christian are thrust into very close quarters while evading two mysterious men who want Christian dead, she can't help but question all her ideas about love and life lived on the edge. Battling the bad guys is hard enough, battling her feelings for Christian just might prove impossible.

Christian and Emily have had a love/hate relationship for awhile. Everyone in the company could see and feel the sparks they set off, but kept their knowledge to themselves as both of them were in denial. Plenty of action and chemistry lend to an exciting story with secondary characters that are just as interesting.

Welcome to Black Knights Inc.
What appears to be a tricked-out motorcycle shop on the South Side of Chicago is actually headquarters for the world's most elite covert operatives. Deadly, dangerous, and determined, they'll steal your breath and your heart.

Dead Man Switch (audio) + Giveaway

Someone is hunting down America's most elite special ops soldiers - in their homes.
A deadly fall on a rugged stretch of California coast. A burglary gone wrong in Virginia. These incidents seem unrelated, but the victims were living undercover, their true identities closely held secrets. They are members of a classified team, the last line of defense against foreign threats. Now someone is assassinating them one by one, taking out family members and innocent bystanders to make the deaths seem like accidents.
Captain John Hayes, a special operations legend, has left the military to settle down with his family. But when he pieces together a pattern behind the murders and discovers that his protƩgƩe, Claire Rhodes, a brilliant assassin, is the prime suspect, he returns to duty to unmask the attackers.
With every success, the killers grow bolder. Their ultimate goal: lure Hayes and his remaining fellow soldiers to Manhattan, to eliminate them all in a single devastating strike. To save his teammates and thousands of innocent lives, Hayes must find a way to stop a seemingly unstoppable weapon.
After listening to Cold Barrel Zero in which John Hayes, a special operation operative is introduced, I knew a great character had been created and was glad to know his story wasn't over.  In this second book he has finally cleared his name with those that matter. There are a select few that know he's been cleared but his cover has been kept in place which will hopefully be of advantage when he has to race to find out who is behind the systematic killing of those involved in Cold Harvest. He is relentless in wanting to protect his team, but one of them may be behind these attacks.  Narrator Peter Coleman gets the fast paced, thrill ride atmosphere of this second John Hayes novel perfectly. I could not stop listening!

Run to Ground

He lost his mentor.
He lost his K9 partner.
He almost lost his will to live.
But when a killer obsessed with revenge targets a beautiful woman on the run, Theo and his new K9 companion will do whatever it takes to save Jules before they lose their last chance at a happily ever after...

Theodore Bosco, grieving the death of his partner, is reluctantly fascinated by secretive newcomer Jules. Although his instincts scream that he should avoid her, he can't seem to stay away. It doesn't help that Theo's new K9 companion, Viggy, has fallen head over paws with Jules's rambunctious family.

Or that when he's with Jules, Theo finally knows peace.

When Jules kidnapped her siblings, whisking them away from abuse to the quiet anonymity of the Colorado Rockies, she never expected to catch the eye-or the heart-of a cop. All it would take is one wrong move and she'll lose everything. Yet as Jules attempts to fight her growing attraction to the brooding K9 officer, another deadly threat lurks much closer to home. Someone's gunning for Theo and Viggy, and they're willing to take out anything...or anyone...who gets in the way of revenge.

While I liked this beginning book in a new series, I didn't love it. Theo is dealing with guilt and grief, which makes his judgement a bit off on the new girl in town. Jules has escaped with/kidnapped her younger siblings. All we know is that they are somehow being abused. She needed the help of a powerful man to escape which leads you to believe that she will have to pay up for this favor sometime in the future.  While they both fight their attraction for different reasons, they can't maintain the fight.  The fact that Jules keeps the real reason why she came to town a secret from Theo is a bit unbelievable and I hope has some resolution in the next book. The threat against Theo and Viggy was easy to figure out.  I was invested enough to want to read the next book.

No Man's Land by David Baldacci (audio)

Two men. Thirty years.

John Puller’s mother, Jackie, vanished thirty years ago from Fort Monroe, Virginia, when Puller was just a boy. Paul Rogers has been in prison for ten years. But twenty years before that, he was at Fort Monroe. One night three decades ago, Puller’s and Rogers’ worlds collided with devastating results, and the truth has been buried ever since.

Until now.

Military investigators, armed with a letter from a friend of Jackie’s, arrive in the hospital room of Puller’s father–a legendary three-star now sinking into dementia–and reveal that Puller Sr. has been accused of murdering Jackie.

Aided by his brother Robert Puller, an Air Force major, and Veronica Knox, who works for a shadowy U.S. intelligence organization, Puller begins a journey that will take him into his own past, to find the truth about his mother.

Paul Rogers’ time is running out. With the clock ticking, he begins his own journey, one that will take him across the country to the place where all his troubles began: a mysterious building on the grounds of Fort Monroe. There, thirty years ago, the man Rogers had once been vanished too, and was replaced with a monster. And now the monster wants revenge. And the only person standing in his way is John Puller.

The letter accusing his father leads John to investigate on his own,  He doesn't remember much and wants to discover the truth  Good friend Veronica Knox is ready to help when they both are called off the investigation by military brass they know they are getting close to something no one wants them to know..  There is a dual story of Paul Rogers recently released from prison, making his way back to Virginia for a reckoning.  As Paul's story unfolds it becomes clear his past has something to do with Jackie's disappearance.  As the chapters alternate and John's investigation brings him back to where he grew up the two stories converge in an unputdownable listen superbly narrated by Kyf Brewer and Orlagh Cassidy. I hope there are more John Puller stories.

Seven Minutes In Heaven (audio)

All of Eugenia Snowe’s problems start when Edward Reeve, an arrogant bastard son of an earl, bursts into her registry office. He wants a governess and he wants her. She gives him the governess he demands, but she refuses to give herself.

No question that Eugenia enjoys crossing wits with the brilliant inventor, but she will never tarnish her reputation with an affaire, particularly with a man who doesn’t realize she’s a lady!

She holds her ground…until he kidnaps her.

Ward will stop at nothing to convince Eugenia that they’re meant to be together. He promises her heaven.

She gives him seven minutes.

We met Eugenia and Ward when they were children in earlier books, they were fun, loveable characters. As adults they are even more loveable, quirky and . Ward is in desperate need of a governess that will stay and help him with his young siblings that recently became orphans. Their Grandmother is filing a petition to have them removed from his care because the kids are behaving strangely in her opinion. He is a successful inventor, but doesn't know how to help them through this grief. When his second governess leaves he demands that Eugenia provide him with another governess. She refuses and he practically kidnaps her to get her to come and meet his siblings to determine the best kind of governess for them. Eugenia has always had great success with her governess placements and is sure that Ward is at fault. She agrees to meet the children. Lizzie and Otis had an unusual upbringing, and Eugenia can relate as she had the same. She encourages them to be themselves and Ward is not happy as he wants them to conform to society rules as he believes that is how he will get permanent custody of the kids. Eugenia has been a widow of seven years and is ready for a change. Ward is attracted to her, but thinks that because of her upbringing she will not be the right kind of wife for him. His reaction was disappointing and I wasn't sure if he deserved Eugenia. Susan Duerden, as usual, does a fantastic job narrating the hilarity, banter and emotion of the characters.

Any Time, Any Place (audio)

At fifteen-years-old, Raven Bella Stratton’s father was killed in a horrible car crash. The bigger shock was the discovery of a woman with him—Diana Pierce—and their two fully packed suitcases with airline tickets to Paris. Devastated by her father’s betrayal, Raven went to live with her aunt, never truly overcoming the traumatic event. When she discovers that the mysterious woman had a family with a husband and three boys, Raven vows to leave the memory of her father behind.

Until Dalton Pierce visits one night and suddenly her past challenges her future...

Leaving his life in California behind to run Pierce Construction with his two older brothers, Dalton Pierce has enjoyed returning home and studying his passion of woodworking. But when he visits the local bar with his brothers one evening, he’s immediately drawn to the smart-mouthed, badass, sexy bartender who sets his body on fire.

Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem as intrigued by him, and his multiple advances are met with rejection. When he offers to restore the bar back to its original glory, he begins to work with her on a daily basis, and falls harder. His plan of seduction slowly weaves a web around them both, until they are caught up in the spell. But Dalton doesn’t know the secret that can either destroy them both...or finally mend two broken hearts

This second installment in the Billionaire Brother's series is Dalton's story. The brothers had to run their family business together for a year in order to keep it.  They did just that and have been successful. Raven owns and operates My Place a local bar that will soon be featured in a local magazine.  Dalton begins work on restoring the bar and figuring out why Raven wants nothing to do with him. Raven knows who Dalton is and holds it against him. Dalton, who doesn't know, can't figure out what is holding her back when they have great chemistry.  What happened to their parents years ago has left them both broken.  Can they leave behind the fallout that their parent's choices caused or will it keep them apart?  Madeline Maby and Sebastian York did a great job narrating each of their characters with humor and emotion. Tristan's story is next.

Right Behind You (audio)

Is he a hero?

Eight years ago, Sharlah May Nash’s older brother beat their drunken father to death with a baseball bat in order to save both of their lives. Now thirteen years old, Sharlah has finally moved on. About to be adopted by retired FBI profiler Pierce Quincy and his partner, Rainie Conner, Sharlah loves one thing best about her new family: They are all experts on monsters.

Is he a killer?

Then the call comes in. A double murder at a local gas station, followed by reports of an armed suspect shooting his way through the wilds of Oregon. As Quincy and Rainie race to assist, they are forced to confront mounting evidence: The shooter may very well be Sharlah’s older brother, Telly Ray Nash, and it appears his killing spree has only just begun.

All she knows for sure: He’s back.

As the clock winds down on a massive hunt for Telly, Quincy and Rainie must answer two critical questions: Why after eight years has this young man started killing again? And what does this mean for Sharlah? Once upon a time, Sharlah’s big brother saved her life. Now, she has two questions of her own: Is her brother a hero or a killer? And how much will it cost her new family before they learn the final, shattering truth? Because as Sharlah knows all too well, the biggest danger is the one standing right behind you.

Rainey and Quincy are looking forward to the finalization of their adoption of Sharlah. When they get a call about a double murder their plans have to take a backseat .  It seems that Sharlah's brother has killed his foster family and is coming for her.  The investigation heats up when another shooting takes place. Telly Ray's story is told in flashback and he becomes a sympathetic character. It didn't take me long to decide that he is not a killer and I had to keep listening to find out if I was right. Great unfolding story as the manhunt for Telly Ray heats up.
Both Teri Schnaubelt and Luke Daniels narration's were well done.  Teri was able to make Sharlah sound her age and the women's voices stood out as well.  I loved Luke Daniels Telly Ray narration.

The Operator (audio)

Peri Reed’s job eats her mind, but for a special task agent in hiding, forgetting the past can be a blessing.

Betrayed by the man she thought she loved and the agency who turned her into the very thing she fought against, Peri abandoned the wealth and privilege of Opti for anonymity riddled with memory gaps and self-doubt. But when a highly addictive drug promises to end her dependency on those who’d use her as a tool for their own success, she must choose to remain broken and vulnerable, or return to the above-the-law power and prestige she once left: strong but without will—for whoever holds her next fix, will hold her loyalty.

Yet even now as then, a love based on lies of omission might still save her life

This is the second book in the Peri Reed Chronicles and is best read after the first book The Drafter. It picks up shortly after the first book. Perri is in hiding from Opti. She is tired of being used, manipulated, and having her memory wiped. They find her and she has to either join them or figure out a way to be free of them. Unfortunately, OPI is not the only organization that wants her for her abilities. This introduces a few new characters that really added to the action, suspense and roller coaster ride of this book.  It is easy to get on Peri's side and along with her, wonder who can be trusted.  I felt the story was a bit repetitive, but it didn't distract from the overall enjoyment of it.  I look forward to the final book that will hopefully get Peri where she wants to be.
January LaVoy did a great job with the character voices, the crazy twists and turns the story takes and especially Peri's desire for freedom.

Always A Cowboy by Linda Lael Miller (#2)

Audio Cover
Drake Carson is the quintessential cowboy. In charge of the family ranch, he knows the realities of this life, its pleasures and heartbreaks. Lately, managing the wild stallions on his property is wearing him down. When an interfering so-called expert arrives and starts offering her opinion, Drake is wary, but he can't deny the longing - and the challenge - she stirs in him.

Luce Hale is researching how wild horses interact with ranch animals - and with ranchers. The Carson matriarch invites her to stay with the family, which guarantees frequent encounters with Drake, her ruggedly handsome and decidedly unwelcoming son. Luce and Drake are at odds from the very beginning, especially when it comes to the rogue stallion who's stealing the ranch mares. But when Drake believes Luce is in danger, that changes everything - for both of them.

This is book two in the series that stands alone well. Romance, wild horses, family, secondary characters all contribute to a great story in this small town. Drake and Luce's relationship doesn't over take the scenery and emotion of the story.

Narrator Jack Garrett nailed Drake's sense of humor and love for his family's ranch. Luce's love for the outdoors and determination to be independent and finish her degree shines through as well. As always the author adds animals that become beloved characters. Looking forward to Mace's story in Forever A Hero.

Breath of Fire + Giveaway

Title: Breath of Fire
Author: Amanda Bouchet
Series: The Kingmaker Chronicles, #2
ISBN: 9781492626046
Pubdate: January 3, 2017
Genre: Fantasy Romance

SHE'S DESTINED TO DESTROY THE WORLD…
BUT NOT IF SHE CAN HELP IT

"Cat" Catalia Fisa has been running from her destiny since she could crawl. But now, her newfound loved ones are caught between the shadow of Cat's tortured past and the threat of her world-shattering future. So what's a warrior queen to do when she knows it's her fate to be the harbinger of doom? Everything in her power.

Griffin knows Cat is destined to change the world—for the better. As the realms are descending into all-out war, Cat and Griffin risk sacrificing everything they’ve fought for. Gods willing, they will emerge side-by-side in the heart of their future kingdom...or die trying.

This book picks up right where A Promise of Fire left off and doesn't let up with the action, adventure and romance.  Once again I could not put it down. Cat's true identity is no longer a secret. Because she loves Griffin she is willing to face her destiny, even though she's afraid of what it really means. They have a plan that needs a few steps to be successful and they have to survive before they can implement it. The battles they endure kept me on the edge, sweating, worrying about all of these characters. Love Cat's snarky, sarcastic humor and the banter between her and Griffin.  There is still a major confrontation coming as a big part of the third book that will be interesting with an added development. This book will be on my favorite of 2017 list.

Award-winning author Amanda Bouchet grew up in New England and studied French at the undergraduate and graduate levels, first at Bowdoin College and then at Bowling Green State University. She moved to Paris, France in 2001 and has been there ever since. A note to readers of The Kingmaker Chronicles:

Breath of Fire comes out on January 3rd and I couldn’t be more excited about it! I hope that readers who met Cat and Griffin and followed their exploits in A Promise of Fire will be looking forward to this second installment in The Kingmaker Chronicles, and I hope that new readers will be interested in giving this fantasy romance trilogy a try. The story picks up right where A Promise of Fire left off and with a shocking moment of truth: Cat’s secrets are finally revealed to all. But with the cat out of the bag (pun definitely intended!), important plans can now form to move Thalyria toward unification under Cat and Griffin’s joint rule—plans that will certainly keep Beta Team on their toes. But while Cat’s violent past and lingering self-doubt still haunt her on a deep level, Griffin won’t let her back down from the fate she’d love to avoid. As Griffin propels her toward her inevitable destiny and Cat tries to come to terms with the prophecy that’s haunted her for eight years, readers can expect plenty of adventure and danger, more of Cat’s smart-mouthed humor, exciting Beta Team moments, and a romance that heats up to positively scorching levels. Friendships solidify into unshakable bonds, and perilous quests lead the members of Beta Team into uncharted territory where monsters, magic, and mayhem abound. With Breath of Fire, I hope that readers get swept away and caught up in the emotion and adventure as Cat and Griffin try to navigate their developing and intensely passionate relationship while also taking on the daunting and dangerous task of conquering the world. But most of all, I hope you simply enjoy the book!

Completely Yours Spotlight + Giveaway

The first book in a brand new contemporary romance series from New York Times bestselling author Erin Nicholas about three geeky girls and the hunky guys who fall for them.

Kiera Connelly leads a quiet life, and that's just how she likes it. She's built a name as a graphic designer and meets up with her friends online, all from the comfort of her living room couch. But when a rare outing turns disastrous, Kiera finds herself up close and way too personal with an unbelievably hot real-life hero.

Zach Ashley doesn't see himself as a hero. He's just a regular guy who gets to help people every day as an EMT. But when he's called to a scene and has to treat his most gorgeous patient ever, he finds himself mixing work with pleasure. He never hesitates to put his life on the line...but will he ever risk his heart?

A fun beginning to the Opposites Attract series. Kiera and Zac are totally different from each other. Zac is an EMT and when Kiera is hurt in an accident Zac watches over her, and in return she will help him understand his gamer sister. He doesn't get her job or how she can understand why it is that his sister can find friends in the virtual world.  Kiera teaches him more than he ever expects.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Erin Nicholas is the author of sexy contemporary romances. Her stories have been described as toe-curling, enchanting, steamy and fun. She loves to write about reluctant heroes, imperfect heroines and happily ever afters.
