Seven Minutes In Heaven (audio)

All of Eugenia Snowe’s problems start when Edward Reeve, an arrogant bastard son of an earl, bursts into her registry office. He wants a governess and he wants her. She gives him the governess he demands, but she refuses to give herself.

No question that Eugenia enjoys crossing wits with the brilliant inventor, but she will never tarnish her reputation with an affaire, particularly with a man who doesn’t realize she’s a lady!

She holds her ground…until he kidnaps her.

Ward will stop at nothing to convince Eugenia that they’re meant to be together. He promises her heaven.

She gives him seven minutes.

We met Eugenia and Ward when they were children in earlier books, they were fun, loveable characters. As adults they are even more loveable, quirky and . Ward is in desperate need of a governess that will stay and help him with his young siblings that recently became orphans. Their Grandmother is filing a petition to have them removed from his care because the kids are behaving strangely in her opinion. He is a successful inventor, but doesn't know how to help them through this grief. When his second governess leaves he demands that Eugenia provide him with another governess. She refuses and he practically kidnaps her to get her to come and meet his siblings to determine the best kind of governess for them. Eugenia has always had great success with her governess placements and is sure that Ward is at fault. She agrees to meet the children. Lizzie and Otis had an unusual upbringing, and Eugenia can relate as she had the same. She encourages them to be themselves and Ward is not happy as he wants them to conform to society rules as he believes that is how he will get permanent custody of the kids. Eugenia has been a widow of seven years and is ready for a change. Ward is attracted to her, but thinks that because of her upbringing she will not be the right kind of wife for him. His reaction was disappointing and I wasn't sure if he deserved Eugenia. Susan Duerden, as usual, does a fantastic job narrating the hilarity, banter and emotion of the characters.

Will's True Wish + Giveaway

It's a dog's life...

Will Dorning, as an earl's spare, has accepted the thankless duty of managing his rambunctious younger siblings, though Will's only true companions are the dogs he's treasured since boyhood. When aristocratic London is plagued with a series of dognappings, Will's brothers are convinced that he's the only person who can save the stolen canines from an awful fate.

But the lady's choice...

Shy, bookish Lady Susannah Haddonfield has no patience with loud, smelly beasts of any species, but must appear to like dogs so as not to offend her sister's only marital prospect. Susannah turns to Will, an acquaintance from her most awkward adolescent years, to teach her how to impersonate a dog fancier. Will has long admired Susannah, though he lacks the means to offer for her, and yet as they work together to rescue the purloined pets, it's loyal, dashing Will who steals Susannah's heart.

Will has a gift with training dogs.  He tries to train his unruly brothers the same way, and much to his disappointment, it doesn't work as well.  He has come to town to keep an eye on the younger brothers and encourage his older titled brother to find a wife.  Lady Susannah is in town for the express purpose of her sister Della's success in attracting a husband.  When the ladies and a suitor are offended by a dog on a walk, the suitor is put out that Susannah wasn't much help so she turns to childhood acquaintance Will for help.  As they spend time together they both begin to remember how much they liked each other.  Will became her champion during her first season when mean girls were trying to put her out of competition. When the dogs are kidnapped, Susannah is convinced that only Will can find them and claim the reward to help them get a start in their life together.  Absolutely loved Will and his love and loyalty not only to his brothers, but to his dogs as well.  Despite his love for Susannah he was unsure of his ability to care for her in the style she deserves, but is willing to figure it out.  Can't wait for Della and Will's brothers' stories.

The Duke's Courtship Duology spotlight and giveaway

THE COURTSHIP
The first novella to be published by New York Times bestselling author Grace Burrowes features the foundation story for her bestselling Windham series. This is the tender story of love tested and won, and how Percy Windham, the dashing and brilliant man who was never supposed to become the Duke of Moreland, wooed Esther Himmelfarb, the amazing lady who became his beloved Duchess.

THE DUKE AND HIS DUCHESS
In this second prequel novella to the popular Windham series, Grace Burrowes continues the story of the Duke and Duchess of Moreland through the tumultuous and bittersweet first years of marriage and parenthood. Percival Windham is a second son and cavalry officer when he weds the beautiful Esther Himmelfarb. Percy and Esther must grow into the nobility they've been resisting and stand together, or face the threat of destroying their young family and the beautiful love that started out with such promise...

Message from the Author

My parents recently celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary—you read that correctly, 7-0. I’m the sixth of their seven children, so I missed a lot of the opening rounds of the Burrowes family story. To make up for that great unfairness, I ask my parents and my older siblings to fill in blanks for me. What was it like for my mom, starting out with twin boys, when the nice obstetrician—who didn’t want to upset her—failed to inform her she was carrying twins?

Mom learned she was to embark on double motherhood in the delivery room, when the nurse said, “Keep pushing, Mrs. Burrowes. You’re still in labor.”

She kept pushing. My brother Dick is particularly grateful she did, too.

What was it like for my father, to be the sole support of nine people, various shirt-tail cousins, and extended family members, on just a professor’s salary?

We never did without the essentials. How did he DOOOOO that?

These stories are the stuff of family legends, and every family has them. When I’d written stories for all of the Windham siblings, I still had a sense that the family tale wasn’t complete. How did Maggie and Devlin join the family? How did Percival, occasionally more stubborn than insightful, have the great sense to marry Esther? Why has Esther remained his champion, conscience, and confidante despite all the trying moments?

To find those answers, I had to write two novellas. First, came “The Courtship”, wherein Their Graces fall madly in love, despite—what a surprise!—meddling parents. Second, came “The Duke and His Duchess”. We know Percy and Esther’s household was in some regards unconventional, but they chose love over appearances from the start of their relationship. I wanted to know how they got through the challenges created by Percy’s behavior prior to the marriage, and emerged a stronger couple and a happier family for their choices.

The Duke’s Courtship duology is the result of my curiosity about the ongoing magic of a loving family, and also a tribute to my parents, whose happily ever after continues, even as a I write this.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Grace Burrowes' bestsellers include The Heir, The Soldier, Lady Maggie's Secret Scandal, Lady Sophie's Christmas Wish and Lady Eve's Indiscretion. Her Regency romances have received extensive praise, including starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Booklist. Grace is branching out into short stories and Scotland-set Victorian romance with Sourcebooks. She is a practicing family law attorney and lives in rural Maryland.

EXCERPT:
Miss Esther Himmelfarb has been dragooned into attending a house party to make up the numbers, and to keep an eye on a cousin with a penchant for gambling. Little does Esther know Lord Percival Windham will risk all to win her heart.

“Miss Himmelfarb, I believe?” Lord Percival winged an arm and smiled at Esther graciously. “Shall I have us introduced, or in the informality of the occasion, will you allow me to join you at supper?”
A more calculating man would have offered to escort her to whoever had the honor of dining with her, but then, Lord Percival likely did not have to be calculating.
“I will happily accept your escort to the buffet, my lord.” Esther laced her gloved hand around Lord Percival’s arm, only to encounter a small surprise.
Or not so small.
Gossip had not lied. The man was muscular in the extreme, and this close, he was also of sufficient height to uphold the fiction that he’d protect Esther from any brigands or wolves wandering about Lady Morrisette’s parlor.
“Does your family hail from Kent, Miss Himmelfarb? I know most of the local families and cannot recall Himmelfarbs among them.”
The question was perfectly pleasant, and so too was his lordship’s scent. Not the scent of exertion or the standard rose-scented rice powder—he wasn’t wearing a wig—but something elusive…
“You’re twitching your nose like a thoughtful bunny, Miss Himmelfarb. Are you in anticipation of something particularly succulent among the supper offerings?”
He smiled down at her as he spoke, and for moment, Esther could not fashion a reply. Of all the times for Charlotte Pankhurst to be right about a man’s blue, blue eyes…
“I’m trying to fathom the fragrance you’re wearing, my lord. It’s pleasant.”
“If I didn’t know better, I’d think from your expression that you do not approve of men wearing pleasant scents.” His tone, amused, teasing, suggested that sometimes, all he wore was a pleasant scent—and that just-for-you smile.
Lord Percival leaned nearer, as if sharing a confidence amid the noise and bustle of the first night of a lively, extended social gathering.
“Bay rum lacks imagination, don’t you think? I shall wear it when I’m a settled fellow with children in my nursery. There’s cedar in the scent I wear, reminds me of Canada. You’re partial to spicy scents yourself.”
He was inviting a reciprocal confidence from her with that observation. The notion of trading secrets with Percival Windham made something beneath Esther’s heart twang—disagreeably, of course.
“Lavender with a few other things.”
“My dear”—his lordship had straightened only a bit—“why is My Lady Hair Bows staring daggers in this direction?”
My lady…? Then… my dear?!
“I’m not sure what you mean, my lord.”
“You know exactly what I mean, Miss Himmelfarb.” Lord Percival picked up a plate, though they were still some distance from any sustenance. “Now the Needy girl is at her elbow, pouring brandy on the flames of gossip. You and I will be engaged by this time tomorrow, I don’t doubt.”
Did one correct a duke’s spare when he made light of marriage to a woman within staring distance of professional spinsterhood?
Yes, one did.
“Her name is Needham, my lord. And I should think an engagement unlikely when you have yet to ask for my hand and I have given no indication I would accept your suit.”
The light in his eyes changed, going from friendly—yes, that was the word—to something more intent.
“You are an impertinent woman. We shall get on famously, Miss Himmelfarb. I adore impertinent women.”

The Beautiful One Spotlight and Giveaway

The Scandalous Sisters, Book 1

A PICTURE SAYS A THOUSAND WORDS…

The ton is buzzing about The Beautiful One, a striking figure in a scandalous book of nude sketches. Only two men know the true identity of The Beautiful One, and they are scouring the countryside, determined to find her.

BUT NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT ONES

The unlikely center of the scandal, Anna Black is forced to flee home as disaster looms. Her tomboy’s heart and impertinent tongue serve her well when she meets the most brooding viscount ever to darken a drawing room. Will Halifax, Viscount Grandville, has his reasons for pushing people away, and when his tempestuous teenaged ward arrives on his doorstep, he presses Anna to take on her care. As Anna begins to melt the Viscount’s frozen heart, she knows the more she loves, the more she has to lose. For although Will cares nothing for what makes Society titter, he has yet to see The Beautiful One.

Emily Greenwood worked for a number of years as a writer, crafting newsletters and fundraising brochures, but she far prefers writing playful love stories set in Regency England, and she thinks romance novels are the chocolate of literature. A Golden Heart finalist, she lives in Maryland with her husband and two daughters.

Thank you so much for having me here today! To celebrate the release of THE BEAUTIFUL ONE, the first title in my Scandalous Sisters series, I asked Anna Black, my spirited heroine, to answer a few questions so you can get to know a little about her and her love interest, Will Halifax, Viscount Grandville.

Who is the “better catch” out of the two of you?
Well now. He’s extremely handsome, smart, wealthy, and a viscount in possession of vast estates. So, kind of a hot item. But, at least when I first met him, he was pretty much a troll. I, meanwhile, am practical, hopeful, and actually quite pleasant to be around. And then there’s the little detail of being the woman every man in the ton wants to meet…

What is your greatest regret?
You might think it would be that I ever trusted my father’s apprentice, but if he hadn’t done what he did, I’d never have met Will. So maybe my greatest regret is that when I was younger, I refused to have anything to do with feminine things like pretty dresses, because now I’ve finally discovered there are some definite advantages to attracting the attention of men.

What’s the oddest place you’ve ever shared a kiss?
Halfway-in and halfway-out of a pond.

  Excerpt from THE BEAUTIFUL ONE

Rounding the edge of the wood at the back of Stillwell, he was startled to see his ward standing about. She was looking up at a tree in which, from the movement of its leaves and branches, some large creature seemed to be thrashing. A crow?

As he drew nearer to the oblivious Lizzie, he was almost certain he heard a woman’s voice coming from among the leaves. Lizzie stepped closer to the tree and lifted her hands upward, and he saw that on a thick branch perhaps six feet off the ground were perched two feet in past-their-prime dark ankle boots, and above them he was treated to a view of trim calves he could not regret. The surrounding leaves and branches mostly obscured the rest of his recently hired governess. In the instant before Lizzie became aware of Will, he saw that she held in her cupped hands a fluffy white ball.

Lizzie turned and saw him, her mouth forming into an “O” as a voice called from above, “Lizzie? I’m ready for the owlet.”

“Er,” said Lizzie, looking at him. In the clear afternoon light he noticed that her eyes were a different color blue than Ginger’s had been. But the shape was Ginger’s, as were the eyebrows. Not her fault, but he couldn’t go the route of compassion. It would only muddy what had to be. He looked past her and lifted a hand to rub his eyes.

“Miss Black,” he said, knowing he could not avoid asking, “what on earth are you doing?”

There was a pause as she absorbed his arrival and a shifting of the feet on the branch near his forehead as they drew together, perhaps in an attempt at modesty.

“Ah, my lord,” she said from above him. “Good afternoon. Lizzie and I are engaged in returning a fallen owlet to its nest. It was her idea. She is very caring toward animals.”

He could feel Lizzie’s big blue eyes on him though his own were still covered by his hand. He had no doubt as to whose idea it had been to climb the tree. He hadn’t truly expected Anna Black to be a typical sort of governess, had he?

“Come down at once.”

“If you will wait just a moment, my lord,” she said breezily, “I shall be down directly. Lizzie, the owlet.”

Lizzie cleared her throat. “Here.”

He tapped her on the shoulder before she could lift her arms farther. “Give me that creature, please.”

She looked uncertain, but she clearly didn’t want to displease him, and she handed over the motionless owl. He took it carefully from her and did not return her tentative smile. He could feel her eagerness for him to acknowledge her, but he let it flow past him.

The leaves and branches above them shook as Anna Black crouched down and extended her hand for the animal. Her bonnet, the same horrible blue one, had fallen on its strings around her neck again, and her hair, apparently loosened by her climb, curled crazily about her face as if she were some unkempt urchin, accentuating her pert nose and reminding him of her jack-in-the-box appearance from the coach.

Her pink lips pressed outward at the sight of him; doubtless she was annoyed by his arrival, but her expression didn’t draw an answering wave of annoyance from him. Instead, her lips were making him wonder, unaccountably, what it might feel like to be kissed all over by pink butterflies.

“The owlet, please,” she fairly ordered him.

“Don’t be ridiculous. Get down this instant before you fall. I will return the owlet.”

“I am already positioned to do so. If you will just give it to me, I can put it back and then receive your displeasure properly on the ground.”

He grunted. Why did he keep finding himself in out-of-his-control conversations with this maddening woman?

In his palm the owlet’s heart beat with a rapid, stressed flutter. He reached up his hand, and she gently took the animal and disappeared into the foliage.

From above came a few rustling noises, then the angry screech of what had to be an adult owl and a yelp. Fearing Miss Black would fall, he stepped forward to catch her, but at that same moment she jumped neatly down, so that she landed right in front of him. He grabbed her arms, a reflex to steady her. She didn’t need his help, but their eyes locked, and for a moment he read vulnerability there before it was replaced with the hard glint of independence. She smelled like sunshine and crushed leaves, and he felt the slim softness of her arms and his body’s yearning to hug her close.

She stepped away from him. It had all happened in the space of a few moments.

But as he watched her brush some leaves from her skirts with her head down, that vulnerability he’d glimpsed tugged at him. Who was this woman? Where had she come from? She was clearly educated and intelligent, and though she was too forthright and she dressed terribly, she was not rough, merely unusual.

That life-on-the-edge-of-propriety quality he’d observed in her the night before had suggested that she’d known some hardship, or that she had some burden she might trade for money. And yet today, in the company of his ward, she looked at ease, even if her eyes seemed to be hiding something.

The Duke and Duchess are having a rocky start to their marriage, also to their day…

“Your tea, Duchess.”

Noah had woken up beside his wife—again, despite all plans to the contrary—creating another first for him. Thea had risen several times during the night to tend to herself. He hadn’t realized that monthly courses caused a woman’s rest to be interrupted.

Crashingly bad planning, for a lady’s sleep to be disturbed when she most needed rest.

“You’re not about to steal my tea?” Thea held out the cup, her gaze shy as she sat propped against the headboard.

“Where’s the fun in stealing what’s freely offered?” Noah settled in beside her and filched a bite of her cinnamon toast. “Would you rather have chocolate this morning?”

“Because?”

“You’re”— Noah waved a hand in the direction of her middle—“indisposed.”

“I am not indisposed.” Thea set her teacup down with a little clink. “The discomfort has passed, as it always does. You needn’t be concerned.”

“I am not concerned, Thea.” Not greatly concerned, now that she’d stopped ordering him to go away and was ready for a proper spat. “I am attempting in my bumbling way to dote. You will allow it.”

Drat. He’d given another order.

“You couldn’t bumble if one gave you written instructions, Anselm,” Thea said, looking a little less peaked for having run up her flags. “That was my toast you appropriated.”

“Appropriation is what happens when one’s wife can’t appreciate a little doting. You’re being stingy with the tea, just as you were stingy with the covers. How long does this indisposition last?”

Her chin came up. “I am the Duchess of Anselm. I am not stingy with anything, but you are a very presuming husband.”

“Doting.” Noah took Thea’s free hand to kiss her knuckles— lest she mistake his point. “Also in need of my duchess’s guidance on this one marital matter.”

“This is so personal.” Thea’s gaze was on their joined hands— for Noah would not have her haring off in a fit of mortification. “I didn’t think you’d be a personal sort of husband. You were supposed to appear in my dressing-room doorway a few nights a month, silently take a few marital liberties, and then leave me in peace. We’d trade sections of the Times over breakfast the next morning.”

“Prosaic.” Boring and exactly what Noah himself had envisioned. “Hard to see any doting going on, though.”

“Husband?” Thea’s tone was hesitant. “Thank you, for keeping me company last night. I would not have known how to ask.”

“I suppose that’s the definition of doting.” Noah lingered at the cart to assemble a plate. “It’s the little things you can’t bring yourself to ask for, that an attentive spouse will enjoy providing to you. Bacon or ham?”

“A little of both, please.”

“Feeling carnivorous?”

“I’m a trifle indisposed. I need the sustenance.”

Noah piled both ham and bacon on Thea’s plate, and stole better than half of it, because he needed the sustenance too.

How to Lose A Lord in 10 Days or Less

He’s the perfect gentleman…

After years hidden away from the mockery of the Ton, proud Andrew Clifton, Lord Amberstall, is finally ready to face Society again. But when his horse is injured on the road to London, Andrew finds himself literally thrown at the feet of the beautiful, infuriating, and undeniably eccentric Katie Moore.

…she’s anything but a lady.

Katie always preferred the stables to society, so when she was badly injured in a riding accident, she was more than happy to retreat to the countryside and give up the marriage mart for good. She never expected an infuriatingly proper lord to come tumbling into her life—and she certainly never expected to find herself wondering what it would be like to rejoin the world at his side. They couldn’t be more different, and soon Andrew and Katie find themselves at odds about everything but the growing passion between them…and a keen awareness of a threat that may end their unconventional romance before it has even begun.

Book three in the Tricks of the Ton series that includes Must Love Dukes and Desperately Seeking Suzanna. We met Andrew in a previous book when Devon and Lily played a trick on him that left him humiliated. He returns and literally falls into Katie's lap. This book was a lot of fun with humor, great banter between the couple, a bit of mystery and a thrilling conclusion. A great ending to the series.  I will definitely read more from this author.

Must Love Dukes

Lillian Phillips could not imagine how her quiet, simple life had come to this. Blackmailed by the Mad Duke of Thornwood into accepting one wild dare after another…all because of a pocket watch. Desperate to recover he beloved father’s pawned timepiece, Lily did something reckless and dangerous and delicious—something that led to a night she’d never forget.

He Has a Reputation for Scandal

When Devon Grey, Duke of Thornwood, runs into the mesmerizing, intoxicating, thieving woman who literally stole from his bedchamber—along with his new pocket watch—Devon plots his revenge. If the daring wench likes to play games, he’s happy to oblige. After all, what’s the use of being the Mad Duke if you can’t have some fun? But the last laugh just might be on him.

A good beginning to a new series by this debut author. Lily will not be bullied by her brothers.  She will do whatever it takes to thwart her brother's plans even if it means helping the "Mad Duke' with his schemes. The outcome of the schemes are funny and entertaining.  It was fun to watch Devon go from wanting revenge to wanting to the best outcome for Lily.

Between A Rake and A Hard Place

Sir Jonah Sharp is a man who can do what’s needed, whether it’s removing an enemy of the Crown permanently or seducing a lady well above his station. He expects Lady Serena to be a typical pudding-headed debutante, ripe for the plucking. But the lady has ideas of her own, including a list of forbidden pleasures she’s determined to try before she must accept the suit of the royal duke.

When Jonah discovers he’s an item on Lady Serena’s list, he wonders just who’s seducing whom.

Third book in the Regency Rakes series.  Jonah is being blackmailed with the treat of treason into keeping Serena from marrying a Duke. He is determined to do just that as well as clear his name. I liked him immediately and had a great time while he kept Serena out of trouble while checking off her forbidden pleasures list.

Douglas, Lord of Heartache

Douglas Allen needs a home for his aching heart...

Douglas Allen, Viscount Amery, hates having arrived to his title without knowing how to manage what few properties he has. Guinevere Hollister is a distant family connection raising her daughter Rose in rural obscurity and stewarding the estate they live on. At the urging of mutual family, Douglas reluctantly puts himself in Gwen's hands for lessons in land husbandry and discovers beneath her prickly exterior a woman of passion and honor. Yet despite the closeness they find, she will not marry him.

Guinevere Hollister needs a champion...

When the powerful Duke of Moreland arranges an engagement between Gwen and his heir, Douglas knows the marriage is not what Gwen wants. In Douglas's eyes, Gwen deserves to make her own choices, even if she chooses continued poverty and disgrace over the love Douglas offers her. Douglas will take on their family, the meddling duke, and Gwen's own lonely, stubborn heart to ensure his lady's happiness

I didn't like Douglas when I first met him in Andrew, the previous book. As we learned his story, I understood why he behaved the way he did. I felt for him and understood his heartache.  Gwen quickly became important to him, but she was keeping a big secret.  Learning the secret was enjoyable as it included the Windham family.  A great series.

Andrew, Lord of Despair

Andrew Alexander will do anything to protect those he loves...

After a tragic yachting accident leaves him wracked with guilt and despair, Andrew Alexander becomes certain he doesn't deserve to be around his own family, let alone the beautiful, forthright Astrid Worthington. He wanders for years, only allowing himself respite from his self-imposed exile when he thinks Astrid safely married. He returns home to find instead that the only woman he's ever loved has been recently—and mysteriously—widowed.

...especially from himself

When Andrew leaves, Astrid refuses to pine. She finds an amiable husband and contents herself with a cordial if unexciting marriage. But her husband's sudden death and Andrew's reappearance threaten to break her heart all over again. When Astrid's life is threatened, she finds Andrew will do anything to protect her not only from her enemies, but also from the truth of his dark past.

Lonely Lords book 7 was another quick, entertaining read.  What is it about guilt ridden, tortured heroes needing strong, spirited women that draw my attention? That certainly is not my life. From the previous book it was thought to be a given that these two would get together.  I liked that I was surprised at the beginning of the novel and had no idea how their HEA would be accomplished.   I did have the mystery behind Astrid's husband's death figured out early.  As always the secondary characters are just as interesting and entertaining. Looking forward to book 8 in this series.

Don't Want To Miss A Thing

Dexter Yates loves his fun, care-free London life; he has money, looks and girlfriends galore. But everything changes overnight when his sister dies, leaving him in charge of her eight-month-old daughter Delphi. How is he ever going to cope?

Comic-strip artist Molly Hayes lives in the beautiful Cotswold village of Briarwood. When it comes to relationships, she has a history of choosing all the wrong men. Leaving the city behind, Dex moves to Briarwood - a much better place to work on his parenting skills - and he and Molly become neighbours. There's an undeniable connection between them. But if Dexter's going to adapt, he first has a lot to learn about Molly, about other people's secrets...and about himself..

This was a good choice to read after finishing a couple of dark, twisty, suspenseful novels. Last year I quickly became a fan of Jill, but this will not be my favorite book of hers. It wasn't bad, it was nice. I did not find it as funny as her previous books.  There is a lot more going on than Molly and Dex's story, which was a bit of a distraction for me, it was nice that everyone got a happy ending.

Gareth

She's caught between a rake and certain ruin...

Felicity Worthington's only hope of avoiding poverty—or worse—is to accept her distant cousin's dubious bequest... a thriving, high-class brothel. Felicity has 90 days to convince her cousin's solicitors that Gareth Alexander has taught her the art of pleasing a man, though she's more interested in the gentleman she glimpses beneath Gareth's debauched airs, than in the rake he's become.

In the business of love...How much should he teach her?

Gareth Alexander, Marquis of Heathgate, has little incentive to help a spinster learn to manage a brothel—except that the alternatives for the prim, pretty Miss Worthington are even worse. His resistance to teaching Felicity how to be a madam leaves Gareth wondering if the honor he'd thought long dead still survives, and if that honor allows him to yield to the lady's ruinous scheme... and to their shared desires.

Book 6 in the Lonely Lords series. Gareth is the Lord of Rakes. I am just as partial to rakes as I am to highlanders. This rake was asked by a lady to teach her what she needs to know in order to inherit her cousin's business she needs to support herself and her sister, only to find that instead of ruining her, she redeems him.  Another wonderfully written story of redemption that is full of humor, secrets and action. I look forward to the next book in the series featuring Gareth's brother Andrew.

Lady Jenny's Christmas Portrait and Morgan and Archer

The only unmarried Windham sibling, Lady Jenny would not mind so very much taking care of her parents, if only she could study art in Paris for a few years first. Jenny longs for both an artistic challenge, and for a small taste of the passion life holds for those with the courage to seize it.

Lord Elijah Harrington arrives to the Windham household to spend the Yule season painting portraits commissioned by Their Graces, and Jenny thinks she’s met not only a kindred spirit, but a man she might love. Alas, for Jenny—and Elijah—honor has obligated him elsewhere, and while ‘tis the season to be merry, for Jenny and Elijah it will take a miracle to bring them their happily ever after.

The last Windham to get a HEA. While I enjoyed catching up with the rest of the family and liked Jenny and Elijah's passion for their art, the rest of the story was just so-so for me.  Their shared love of art and banter about it was more appealing than their chemistry.  The lengths Jenny's family went through to get the couple alone together was comical. Grace has become a favorite author and I look forward to her next series.

Archer Portmaine is investigating a plot against the Crown when he meets Morgan James, a young lady who believes her hearing problems make her a poor candidate for marriage, although her disability provides the key to unraveling Archer's mystery—and to capturing his heart.

Morgan and Archer were secondary characters from previous novels in the Windham series.  Since this is a novella their story is a bit rushed, but very enjoyable.

It Takes To To Tangle

It’s Cyrano de Bergerac with a twist in Theresa Romain’s new regency romance: It Takes Two to Tangle! Romain brings her hilarious wit and flirty storytelling to a new tale about a man who falls in love with the current darling of the beau monde through her beautiful letters… but is it her, or her smart and capable companion writing them?

Though he lost the use of an arm in the Napoleonic Wars, Henry Middlebrook returns to London society and begins an ambitious courtship of the ton’s reigning beauty, Caroline. When he experiences limited success, he decides to ask for assistance from Caroline’s companion, Frances Whittier, who suggests he write a letter.

A soldier’s widow with a murky past, Frances admires Henry’s courage and sends him a secret letter in return. He thinks the letter is from her mistress, and he writers “her” again, and Frances responds… Frances wishes she could reveal the truth, but doesn’t want to hurt his pride, or her own! But when Henry defends his “lady’s” honor by challenging another suitor to a duel, and Frances’ past secrets make her feel she can’t be trusted, will either of them be able to have true love?

This first book in The Matchmaker Trilogy was a delightful surprise.  Witty and romantic with characters that are interesting, easy to like and disike. Eveything you look for in a regency.  I will read more from Thesesa Romain

One Night With A Rake

To prevent three royal dukes from marrying their way onto the throne, heroic, selfless agents for the crown will be dispatched...to seduce the dukes' intended brides. These wickedly debauched rakes will rumple sheets and cause a scandal. But they just might fall into their own trap...

Since the death of his fiancée, Nathaniel Colton's polished boots have rested beneath the beds of countless wayward wives and widows of the ton. He's careful to leave each lady smiling, and equally careful to guard his heart. So seducing Lady Georgette should pose no problem. But the beautiful reformist is no easy conquest, and Nate's considerable charm fails to entice Georgette to his bed. To woo her, Nate will have to make her believe he cares about someone besides himself—and no one is more surprised than Nate when he realizes he actually does.

This is book 2 in the Royal Rakes series, and I liked this one even better than the first. Nathan and Georgie were immediately likeable and their chemistry was ignitable! . The secondary characters were just as fun. The murder mystery added an extra dimension even though I knew who the "bad" guy was right away. I look forward to the third book in the series.

Nicholas and Ethan

Nicholas by Grace Burrowes (Lonely Lords #2)

Nicholas Haddonfield has something to hide...

After a wild youth, Nicholas Haddonfield, Viscount Reston, has promised his ailing father he'll finally take a bride, though doing so will force Nick to make impossible choices and face old, painful wounds.

Leah Lindsey is glad to find refuge from her own desperate situation in a marriage of convenience with the gallant viscount. But soon convenience is not enough, and Leah can't understand why Nick remains so distant.

What is he hiding, and will he never allow her into his heart?

Grace Burrowes is quickly becoming my go to author for Regency. Right away I loved Nicholas and Leah. It was fun to watch Nicholas do the exact opposite of what he intended. Both characters are courageous, honest, genuine and in need of rescuing.  Well-written with humor, romance and a dash of secrets that keep it interesting.  The cover photo is nothing like I pictured Nicholas.

Ethan by Grace Burrowes  (Lonely Lords #3)

Ethan Grey's life was shattered...

Estranged from his family, widowed after an unhappy marriage, and weary from fighting his troubled past, Ethan Grey now has a chance for redemption. His son's beautiful and remarkable governess might help him battle his ghosts, but it's been a long time since he let himself get close to anyone.

Alice Portman has more in common with Ethan than she can comfortably admit. For now, she's satisfied with helping him rebuild his life and family. But the dangerous past is about to catch up with them both.

At first I wasn't sure I liked Ethan, but as the story progressed, I fell in love with him.  Both Ethan and Alice are wounded people with secrets to hide that bind them together in a touching, emotional story.  I can't wait for the third book, Beckman in this series.

Lady Vivian Defies A Duke

The Naked Truth

Lady Vivian Worth knows perfectly well how to behave like a lady. But observing proper manners when there's no one around to impress is just silly. Why shouldn't she strip down to her chemise for a swim? When her betrothed arrives to finally meet her, Vivi will act every inch the lady—demure, polite, compliant. Everything her brother has promised the man. But until then, she's going to enjoy her freedom...

A Revealing Discovery

Luke Forest, the newly named Duke of Foxhaven, wants nothing to do with his inheritance—or the bride that comes with it. He wants adventure and excitement, like the enchanting water nymph he's just stumbled across. When he discovers the skinny-dipping minx is his intended, he reconsiders his plan to find Lady Vivian another husband. Because the idea of this vivacious woman in the arms of another man might be enough to drive him insane—or to the altar.

This book turned out to be so much more than it's title. Each character had defects that would make them less than acceptable in Society's eyes, but made them more interesting and in Vivian's case, fun. A perfect choice to take a break from the hectic pace of wedding preparations.

Darius

Darius Lindsey can't escape himself...

With his beloved sister tainted by scandal, his widowed brother shattered by grief , and his funds cut off, Darius Lindsey sees no option but to sell himself—body and soul.

The aging Lord William Longstreet offers Darius a devil's bargain. If Darius gives Lord William what he needs, he may have a chance to get free of his debts and more importantly, his devastating degradations.

Now if only Darius knew what to do with the lovely, beguiling, gentle Lady Vivian, whose tenderness and understanding wrap his soul in a grace he never expected, and know he doesn't deserve.

Darius Lindsey is not your average regency hero. He sells himself to rich, bored, (en)titled women to make ends meet caring for his family. He is instantly likeable, sympathetic and desperate.  His latest offer is ever so tempting as it will pay his debts, but will require more than he has been willing to give. Vivian is in a marriage of convenience, she was harder to warm up to, but as they get to know each other, I came to like her very much. I loved the humor, emotion, and redemption of this book. I was riveted to the pages wondering how their HEA would come about. Looking forward to book two in the Lonely Lords series..
