Last Week's Reading Wrap Up (Sp/IMWAYR?)

A Merciful Death by Kendra Elliott (#1)
FBI Agent Mercy Kilpatrick is sent to help on a case in a small  Oregon town. Local "preppers" have been killed and their stash of weapons taken. It is the last place she expects to be sent, her home town. She left 15 years ago after a family incident, and hopes to keep her return quiet.  When she discovers a connection to these murders and two that happened years ago she knows her quiet return is not going to happen.  The local Chief is an outsider and is intrigued by what Mercy is hiding, a secret that could end her career. They work together to solve the case with a bit of attraction brewing.  Mercy's struggle with who she was and who she has become was the heart of the story for me and very well communicated.  I look forward to see how this character develops.

Accidentally On Purpose by Jill Shalvis (#3)
Eva is a strong independent woman.  She is working towards her degree while working as a building general manager. She feels she owes Archer a debt for helping her get there. Archer owns and operates a security company and Eva will help him out when needed. They continually snipe at each other to hide what they really feel. Each feels the other deserves someone else that you just want to smack them upside the head.  Their chemistry was oozing off the pages in the previous books and a past was alluded to, and I really looked forward to their story.  It gave me everything I wanted -  Jill always writes characters I want to know and places I want to go!

Sleepless in Manhattan by Sarah Morgan (#1)
On the day Paige was certain she was getting a promotion, she was let go, even though she is one of the best event planners and brought new clients to the company.  Her two best friends that work along side of her were also let go. Paige feels so responsible and is frantic to find another job, not only for herself, but for her friends as well.  Her brother's best friend Jake encourages (goads) Paige into finally starting her own business. Paige has always had a thing for Jake, but he shot her down years ago. Jake hires Paige's company to plan an event for him and it is a huge success that sky rockets her business.  Jake sees Paige in a totally different light, but years ago promised his best friend (Paige's brother) that he would steer clear.  Will his grown attraction trump the promise he made to his friend?  Will Paige relax her independent blinders and allow herself to be vulnerable?  A sweet, funny, totally enjoyable read.  I look forward to Frankie and Matt's story.

Books For Living by Will Schwalbe (NF)
The authors shares how 26 books impacted his life that are profound, heartbreaking, emotional, teachable and revealing, I can relate to his "Reader's Nightmare" shared in the introduction. I read maybe 5 non-fiction books a year and am so glad I didn't miss this wonderful jewel. It is a book that can be read over and over. I've read quite a few of the books he discusses, but many of them are going on  my TBR list.

Always A Cowboy by Linda Lael Miller

Saturday was a beautiful Spring day in January!  Sunny, warm and a nice reprieve from winter.  Spent a lot of time waiting last week which led to a good amount read. I discovered something that I don't like this week - a book that shares a recipe in the chapter rather than at the end of the chapter or book. It was distracting.  Not sure if it would be as distracting if I had been reading as I could have skipped over it and read it later.

I enjoyed the warmer weather we've been having too. Wish we could just skip the rest of winter and get to spring now.

I want to read The Hate List and Books for Living sounds really good. I don't read much nonfiction but this sounds like something I should check out. I read book three in the Manhattan series but maybe I should have started with the first. Accidentally on Purpose sounds really good too.

Although the title isn't familiar Kendra Elliot is and I've read that novel from memory and enjoyed it!!!

It's been super hot here and I'm hoping Autumn comes as early as possible!!!

A Merciful Death sounds like a great start to a new series. Sleepless in Manhattan sounds like a fun read too.

Sure was nice weather! Could use more. :) Like the sound of A Merciful death- sounds like a good thriller and I like the "prepper" angle.

I've been hearing a lot of about Jill Shalvis' books lately. May have to give her a try one day. Sleepless in Manhatten has also caught my eye and I think I've had The Mistletoe Inn on my TBR for a while now. Looks like you read some pretty good books recently.

Hope this coming week is a good one too. :)

Books for Living is one I would have skipped. So thanks for mentioning it. I'll see if my library has a copy and then decide if I want to buy it.

Am interested in several of these, especially BOOKS FOR LIVING. Need to see if my library has acquired it yet. Waiting is good for book reading isn't it? I'm always more relaxed about it when I have a book with me. Well, I'm more relaxed about most everything when I have a book with me. LOL

Sleepless in Manhattan looks like a book I would enjoy....and I loved Sting.

I have Here's to Us waiting patiently on Pippa...I don't think I will wait until summer, although it is the kind of great summer read I like to pick.

Thanks for sharing.

I haven't tried any of the books on your round up today although some of them sound interesting.

The recipe in the middle of a chapter does sound a but strange and I'm not sure I could get over that intrusion either!

Hope you have a great week!

I love Hilderbrand but haven't listened to your newest. I will curious to see what you think. I just listened to a book that had recipes at end of chapters. It was cool, although I was listening to Sebastian York and really he made the food sound decadent!

This warm up was nice! We got to take the boy out and about for a bit without it being stinging cold.

Hmm. I don't think I like that either, when there is something extraneous at the end of a chapter.

The Mistletoe Inn looks good!

I am currently reading Accidentally on Purpose, I always like how she writes the romances, although this isn't my favorite one in the series it's still a good read. I never have seen a recipe in the book, they usually are at the end. I can imagine when listening that would be distracting, at least with reading you can skip over it.
