Tuesday Intro/Teaser

First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros is a weekly meme hosted by Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea every Tuesday. To participate share the opening paragraph or two of a book you've decided to read based on that paragraph. Please feel free to join in, First Chapter~First Paragraph~Tuesday Intros.

Why didn't she think of this city as home? Catherine Ling wondered as she looked down through the clouds from the window of the jet approaching Hong Kong. Other people would have found it strange that she has never regarded this exotic, wonderful, terrible city as her home place. She had spent her childhood here on the streets struggling, sometimes starving, always having to use her mind and wits just to stay alive. It was only when she was fourteen and had been chosen by Venable to go to work for the CIA that she had left the city. Perhaps it was because she had never been at ease enough to think of it as haven. Wasn't a home supposed to offer safe haven?

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of  Should Be Reading.

"Veneable hadn't wanted her to go to Hong Kong to be with her son. He'd had that job for her to do in Guatemala City, and he could be as stubborn as he was devious."

I debated using the same or different books for my FCFPTI and TT post. I chose different. But reading your post, I now see how each can support the other, or give different aspects of the book. Well done!
