Spring break ended up being more work than break as we worked to get my husbands parent's house ready to sell. It is emotional going through their things and deciding what to keep, donate, sell or throw away. It made me think about my own "stuff".
Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:
Given by Kelli Maine
Did not know this was book 4 in a series when I first started reading. I had a hard time connecting to Rachel and Merrick, getting so frustrated with their lack of communication. The twist in this novel of Nadia, Merrick's daughter, kept me interested, and I did not see the resolution of the situation coming, maybe due to not reading any of the other books. I would have enjoyed this more had I read the other books in the series.
*Thanks to Forever Hachette for this review copy. The King by J.R. Ward
The 12th book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series (aka my guilty pleasure). This chunkster has many story lines. The major story line Wrath and Beth - Wrath coming to terms with his kingship. Beth wanting a baby and Wrath being against it. How the issue resolved is emotionally awesome. Beth comes up with a way to foil the Glymera's plans to take the throne away from Wrath. We also are treated to Wraths parent's story. The Shadows, Trez and iAm feature prominently in this book. No fighting with the Lessors or Band of Bastards in this book. Xcor can't stay away from Layla and his trip to Macy's is priceless. Assail and Sola's story heats up. A satisfying installment in this series.
The Supreme Macaroni Company by Adriana Trigiani
Loved getting reacquainted with Valentine and her family in this last book of the series. Valentine is getting married to Gianluca. They love each other very much, but have to navigate many issues. The shoe business is going well, but has a couple of bumps in the road that need figuring out as they navigate their marriage. This ended up being an emotional book that left me wanting to know what happens next in Valentine's life, and wishing this wasn't the last one
Attorney Jonah is on the fast track to a life he has always wanted and things are all .falling into place. Until, at a party, he has a vision that changes everything. Judith is also headed for success - brilliant, focused, and determined. She suffers a loss that changes the course of her life. The story how their lives intersect is entertaining, funny and provides much to ponder. A debut retelling of the story of Jonah.

I want to read The Supreme Macaroni Company. It looks good.
Have a great week!
I know just what you're going through with your in-law's home. We just did the same thing in Florida earlier this year when my FIL moved to a senior living community and gave us his house. Not quite as many memories because my MIL hasn't been there for several years. We will begin renovations soon, but I'm not sure we'll end up selling...
I want to read The Supreme Macaroni Company, too.
I hate that when you get into a book and then realize its not the first int he series :)Adriana though.... how fun!
Going through loved one's possessions is so difficult. I hope this is a better week for you.
The King as well as the Trigiani book sound good. Sorry your spring break week was tough, it's hard going through loved ones' belongings like that. So many emotions and memories involved. Hope your week ahead is a good one.
All new books to me, with the exception of one. I love to see this - I have discovered some 'must read' authors from other book bloggers.
Have a great week!
Good books! I would like to read What I Had Before I Had You and the Supreme Macaroni Company. Have a good week.
I'm sorry you're having to do all those things that need to be done when a loved one dies. Remember they are just things, but some things do remind us of people. I have that affliction, I cannot part with things. I have the Trigianni books but have yet to get to them, Thanks for your thoughts, keep well.
Hope the week gets better for you.
Sorting through loved ones' things is emotionally draining ... hope you can fit in some relaxation this week. I'd like to get back to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series but first I need to finish the last two Cat & Bones lol.
Happy reading Nise :)
Hugs to you
Luckily two of my sisters volunteered to go through my Mum's things last year when she died. I can't even think of when Dad goes and we have to fold up the home.
Some great reading, so tempted to take up the J R Ward books after reading your review, have read many of them but not all.
I'm sorry you're having a tough time going through your In Laws things. I'm terrified of when that time comes. I hope you have a better week. I can't wait for my hold of The King to come in at the library.
Here's my It's Monday! Post

I loved The Supreme Macaroni Company, and only had read one of the previous books. I want to go back and read the second book, which I missed.
The Book of Jonah looks intriguing...thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.
Great variety of books. I have The Supreme Macaroni Company on my list to read, and did not realize it was a series. Thanks for the heads up, I'll start at the beginning.
Going through another's possessions always makes you think of your own stuff, I have been there too.
Hope your week is better and brighter.
Going through a home can be very emotional, good and bad.
Enjoy your reads this week.
Another great week in books for you, Nise'. I have a copy of The Supreme Macaroni Company that I keep lending out to friends because I haven't found the time to read it yet. I'm a big Valentine fan, so hope to read the book next time it comes back to me.
My weekly recap: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2014/04/weekly-book-recap-62.html
The King was like the old J.R. Ward - it was so nice to see all of the old characters. Biggest gripe - I needed more Rhage!
Happy reading this week! :) The Brunette Librarian's Blog
Nise' I'm sorry for your loss.
I've been curious about The Supreme Macaroni Company. It sounds good. I am not familiar with this author.
The Book of Jonah looks interesting, adding it to my ever growing tbr list :)
I really like your format, and I've heard good things about J.R. Ward, but have never read.
Sorry about your loss, and I hope things get better.
I wonder if I will ever read a J.R. Ward title. :-) The Book of Jonah sounds interesting to me.
Hard to sort through things of our parents. Yes - we have too much stuff too.
Have a great week.
What an emotional week for you. "stuff" is getting wweded out of our house and I often use the question of who will want it later? Found a big envelope of all of our France ticket stubs and made Jason come look at them one more time before I threw them away. (ok, I kept 2 :))
I want to read the Book of Jonah.
