"I pick up the baseball bat. It’s a thirty‑two‑ounce Rawlings composite. I feel the weight in my hands. The balance is slightly off from a dent on the tip.I grasp the bat on either end and stretch out in the parking lot after the game. Natick vs. Wellesley. My Natick teammates are all around me, high school jocks doing what they do after a win. Celebrating. Big‑time. I celebrate, just like them. This is what I think to myself: I am one of you. I am young. I am a winner. I smile and stretch. After a moment, I shift my weight onto my back leg and I swing hard. Jack Wu comes up behind me at the same time. The bat misses his head by an inch."

We both read this in October and liked it. Here's our review if interested: http://www.ourstack.blogspot.com/2013/10/boy-nobody-by-allen-zadoff.html
Are you enjoying it?
Yikes!! (as in the almost smashed head). Sounds good and I think I'd keep going.
I like the intro and I would probably read more. New to me title.
Thanks for joining us.
I'd keep going.
OUCH!!! That would have hurt. Nice intro...keep reading.
Great intro! I'd like to read more and see where this one is going.

I have seen this book around the blogosphere and been curious about it. Sounds good! My teasers this week are from The Great Trouble by Deborah Hopkinson and Dark Witch by Nora Roberts. Happy reading!
I'm definitely interested! Unlike many of the other commentors, I don't recall hearing about this book, before, but the intro has me curious.
I'd want to see the book description before I decided, but the opening para is intriguing.

I wonder where this story is going...I'd have to read to find out.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Wow! The intro grabbed me, even though I usually don't read about sports. This sounds like a lot more, though.
Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
You certainly have my attention with that teaser!
I'm curious where this is leading!
The narrator is really introspective -- not your stereotypical teenage jock. The first person point of view makes the scene come to life too. Good writing.
My Teaser is from CHRISTMAS CALLING.
Athletes full of themselves and baseball bats can never end well. Hope you enjoy it. Here's Mine
Whoa - that really grabbed my attention! Yes. I'd read on.
