When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Clary knows she should call the police, but it's hard to explain a murder when the body disappears into thin air and the murderers are invisible to everyone but Clary.
Equally startled by her ability to see them, the murderers explain themselves as Shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, Clary's mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon.
But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....
Cassandra Clare's first book in the Mortal Instrument series was a page turner. Although, I had much of the mystery figured out, I still enjoyed the adventure. There was a bit too much fighting for me, but it is geared towards younger readers, who will like the battles. Overall a good read. I am interested enough to find out what happens next and will pick up the second book, City of Ashes.

I wonder what City of Bones meant. I am curious. I haven't read this and haven't had a book by this author. But it sounds like one of those movies I'd spend my money and time watching inside the theater. I hope my library carry this book. I better check. Thanks for the review.
I love books with fighting and action so maybe it is the series for me. Writing it down.... Great review!
Nice to hear that it is good, I so wanna read it too
I liked this book, but felt the next book was a bit of a disappointment. I am curious as to what you will think of the rest of the series.
I think the 2nd book is even better!!
