Weekly Reading Wrap Up

A Murderous Relation by Deanna Raybourn (audio) #5
Lady Veronica and Stoker are asked to help get an item back that the Prince gave to a lady in order to keep a scandal from beginning.  The charm is in possession of a lady who owns an exclusive private club which means they must be discrete. While at the club, in disguise, a murder happens that leads them on an investigative trail that draws Veronica in personally with serious consequences.  Veronica and Stoker have great chemistry that lends to a terrific story with plenty of banter and humor.  Brilliantly narrated by Angela Masters.

Cleaning the Gold by Karin Slaughter and Lee Child
Jack Reacher and Will Trent find themselves at Fort Knox.  Will because Reacher's DNA turned up in an 1997 cold case.  Jack because he was asked to go undercover for the every 10 year moving and cleaning of the gold.  While there they discover information that neither is sure what to do with, as well as stopinga criminal conspiracy at a high level.  A quick novella with two great characters.

Into The Fire by Gregg Hurwitz #5
Evan Smoak has decided his next phone call will be his last.  The Nowhere Man will retire. Max was given an envelope by his cousin in case anything happened to him.  When something did happen, Max realizes he is in trouble when the reporter he was supposed to give it to has been killed too, and calls for help.  Evan thinks this will be a quick fix to end the threat against Max, but quickly figures out there are more threats. This last mission may just be the one that takes him down.  Evan is determined to fight will all he's got as he has been offered what he has been seeking for so many years.  Plenty of on the edge of your seat action ending with a big cliffhanger!

Hideaway by Nora Roberts
The Sullivan family has been very successful in the entertainment business. Cate began her career at a young age.  When she was 10 she was kidnapped for ransom.  As a smart, resourceful girl she got herself free and was helped at a nearby house.  This is her story over the next 20 years, dealing with the aftermath of what really happened and deciding whether or not she wanted to continue in the family business.  At times it was repetitive, but over all a good family saga.

The Summer Deal by Jill Shalvis #5
Brynn returns home after her boyfriend stole everything from her.  She is defeated and discouraged.  She reunites with  childhood friend Eli at the hospital after a panic attack.  He offers her a room to rent in this large house and she gets a job as a teacher.  She feels things are looking up until she meet one of her roommates.  Kinsey has been her frenemy since their summer camp days.  Kinsey has a secret that is huge ( I am glad that I did not know what it was going into the story).  Brynn has to decide if she is strong enough to deal with prickly Kinsey as well as her building attraction to Eli.  An emotional, heartwarming story of family, friends with plenty of drama.

Your Life Is Mine by Nathan Ripley (audio)
Blanche is a successful documentary film maker with her best friend Jaya.  Blanche receives some news that brings her past roaring back.  She learns that her mother, whom she has been estranged from for years, has been killed.  When she goes to identify the body she learns that her mother's death may be the beginning of the resurrection of her father's cult that she escaped from twenty years ago after his death.  Blanche tries to stay under the radar but a journalist confronts her with her true identity and threatens to expose her unless she cooperates with his story.  Plenty of twists and turns as she figures out what and who is behind it all.  Candace Thaxton and Corey Brill's narration kept me listening to this creepy story.

Daring and the Duke by Sarah MacLean #3
Grace has made a life for herself as the owner of an exclusive club for women all the while hiding from her partner's brother Ewan the duke. He is back and knows that she is alive. He says he has changed and wants reconciliation and forgiveness.  Grace is not sure she can forget the past. I love it when an authors can redeem a character and make me root for him. Narrated by the brilliant Justine Eyre.  Not a favorite of the series, but a good conclusion

You've had plenty of reads. You have me interested now in adding the Jill Shalvis book to my TBR. I do have Hideaway on audio but I seemed to have slowed with my listening.
