Weekly Reading Wrap UP (SP/IMWAYR?)

The Friendship List by Susan Mallery
Ellen and Unity have been friends since they were kids.  Each is struggling with how to move forward.  Ellen's (a mom at 17) son is graduating from high school contemplating not going to college because he thinks his mom needs him at home.  Ellen needs to find a way to show her son she is capable and moving on with her life.  Unity has been widowed for three years and her grief group (full of seniors) have decided she needs to be kicked out and get on with her life.  The friends make a list of things they need to do to accomplish their goals, as well as help each other meet them.  Hilarious and heartwarming things begin to happen as they try to fulfill the list. Devoured this book over a couple of days.

Feels Like Falling by Kristin Woodsen Harvey
Gray's divorce is just about final.  Her story is so cliche, her husband left her for an younger woman.  She is also grieving the loss of her mother.  She decides to spend the summer at her home on the coast.  The visitation schedule of her young son is causing her concern, but as she is trying to heal and grieve, she decides to be the bigger person.  When she thinks she was the cause of a woman's firing at the local photo shop she invites Diana to live in her guest house.  Diana is just out of another relationship in a string of bad ones.  Somehow these two women connect and become friends. Each one helping the other one forge a new path in life.  Alternating between each character's voice is a story of second chances, healing and friendship.

Say Yes to the Duke by Eloisa James #5 (audio)
Viola and Joan are adopted daughters of a Duke. Viola is the shyest and just wants this season to be over.  She meets the new vicar and decides she is in love.  Devin, Duke of Wynter  knows it is time to be married and he wants a Wilde daughter. He sets his sights on Joan, but is quickly intrigued by Viola.  She is resistant at first as she thinks being a vicars wife is the life for her, but her family intervenes.  When Devin makes his interest known she accepts, and their romance begins.  Hilarious at times, their story is a great installment in this series. Narrated by the brilliant Susan Duerden.

Gone By Midnight by Candice Fox #3
Ted is looking forward to finally spending time with his daughter Lillian after his false accusations. His ex-wife believes him to be innocent but those in town do not.  Right before she arrives he is called to consult on a missing child case.  A group of people are vacationing at a hotel and one of the boys goes missing while the parents are out to dinner. As Ted and Amanda investigate by the request of the mother of the missing boy things don't add up. Meanwhile Ted is trying to forge a relationship with his daughter and Amanda has a stalker.  A fast-paced, twisty story that ends with a surprise I did not see coming.  Look forward to returning to this series set in Australia.

Heiress For Hire by Madeline Hunter #1
Minerva has been living somewhat in hiding as the death of her husband is suspicious. She has recently inherited a fortune from a man she has never met.  She discovers a man snooping around her house.  He is the nephew of the Duke who bequeathed Minerva the money while cutting out his entire family.  Chase is an investigative agent and has been tasked with looking into his uncles death to determine if it was an accident.  Minerva also delves in investigations and they decide to work together to 1) find out if the death was an accident and 2) prove Minerva had nothing to do with his death.  As they work to solve the mystery a romance begins to brew. The cause of the Duke's death is left unsolved and will be carried through to the next book in the series. A good start to a new series.

Dance Away With My by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
The Book Charmer by Karen Hawkins
Close Up by Amanda Quick

Another great week of reading.  This week was supposed to be our town's annual big festival, but like so many other things, it was cancelled.  It will be strange not to have so many people in town and attend the big fireworks finale.

The Friendship List is very appealing and I've certainly enjoyed other books by that author. I also have wanted to read Candice Fox's series and so I'll put the first book on my list for 'soon-ish'. Yes, strange year, right? My mother-in-law was asking me if I thought that this would all be over by Christmas. I told her that I wouldn't get my hopes up. Sigh.
