Weekly Reading Wrap Up (SP/IMWAYR?)

Undercover Attraction by Katee Robert #5
Disgraced cop Charlotte agrees to pose as the fiancee of the head of the O'Malley crime family.  Aiden needs her wits to take down a dangerous, sadistic competitor and agrees to help her get justice against those she thinks set her up to take the fall for fellow dirty cops.  Neither is prepared for seeing the other in a different light and it changes everything.  They will really need to work together and for each other to combat the true enemy.  A fast paced, quick read that sets up the final installment in this family saga.

The Big Lie by James Grippando #16
As a fan of the Jack Swyteck character this series is an automatic for me.  That said, this was not as enjoyable as usual as I like to read to escape real life for a bit.  Jack represents an electoral voter who has decided to vote her conscience and change her vote for the other candidate.

The Bastard's Bargain by Katee Robert #6
Keira O'Malley has agreed to marry Dimitri to unite two powerful families and to hopefully bring a bit of peace.  She has been on a downward spiral since her brother Devlin was killed, and sees this as an opportunity to escape it all, not caring that her family thinks Dimitri is using her for his own advancement. Dimitri is surprised at her tenacity and determination as well as his willingness to help her.  When they are faced with the return of a sadistic and dangerous competitor it helps to untie them to fight for not only their lives, but the lives of their family members.  A great conclusion to this family saga.

Hello Summer by Mary Kay Andrews
Conley is excited about her new job opportunity in DC.  While at her farewell party in Atlanta, she learns that the paper has shut down and her job is gone.  With nowhere to go she returns home to Florida to stay with her grandmother.  Her sister runs the family weekly paper and agrees to help out until she can find another job.  While out with a friend she witnesses an accident of a local congressman that brings out the investigative reporter in her especially when she uncovers some secrets. Death threats and accidents don't slow her down despite many asking her to let it go.  Will her doggedness come between her and new friendship with Sam?  When things heat up, offers from around the country pour in and her dreams are within her reach Conley will have to make some hard decisions.  A great vacation/summer read.

Hour of the Assassin by Matthew Quirk
Former secret service agent Nick hires himself out to test the security for powerful people/businesses and find vulnerabilities.  His latest job is for the former CIA director.  He gets in too quickly and finds himself at the center of a set up when the man is killed.  Nick barely escapes and needs to figure out a way to clear his name.  While on the run he discovers how deep the conspiracy goes and learns those close to him cannot be trusted.  A page turning thriller.

Mine by Courtney Cole (audio)
Successful business owner Tessa has just discovered her husband is cheating on her with a younger woman.  While at home during a hurricane she find his device and reads the texts.  Posing as her husband she invites Lindsey over. When Lindsey arrives Tessa turns into someone she never imagined as she confronts her.  While the storm rages Lindsey's story is told in flashback while Tessa's is current.  A bit over the top but Tavia Gilbert narrates Tessa's devastation, anger and shock well.  Caitlin Davies narrates Lindsey's brokenness, entitlement and naivete just as well. The narration kept me listening.

Another good week of reading and listening. Thank you for your kind congratulations on my 40th anniversary.  We celebrated with a nice dinner. This week my youngest is 29.  I have no idea how that happened.

Good to know Hello Summer is a good read. It is somewhere on the high seas on its way to me. Made me giggle over your 29 year old. Don't the years pass is a blink.

My youngest is 17 and I just don't know where the years went from her being a toddler to being that old! I'm so glad you had a good reading week, I hope this one is kind to you too.

We are in the middle of winter so that cover of Hello Summer looks so inviting right now.

I totally understand how it's impossible to understand the passage of time. Our oldest is 33 and our youngest will be 17 in the fall. I still feel like I am 30. Where does the time go?

Great to see the Christmas books out. I'm in the mood to read some. I will have to check out Hello Summer.

I'm reading a suspenseful book now, but I've been going easy on them because my nerves are always on edge already, without adding to the tension!
Hello Summer is probably healthier for me right now, and we're in the middle of a heat wave here, so a summer book would be good.
