Weekly Reading Wrap Up (SP/IMWAYR?)

The Dry by Jane Harper  (#1)
Aaron Falk returns home to attend the funeral of his childhood friend Luke.  He was on the fence about attending until he received the note saying, "Luke lied. You lied. Come to the funeral". Despite knowing the memories the return would bring up, he goes. Luke's parents beg him to stay longer to investigate what really happened to Luke as they are sure he did not take his own life. Secrets are unburied as Aaron investigates with Sgt. Raco. This debut novel kept me turning the pages as not only what happened to Luke is revealed, but Aaron's past as well. I look forward to the next book in the series.

The Danger of Desire by Sabrina Jeffries (#3)
Delia is engaging in dangerous deceptions.  She is masquerading as a man to root out the gambler that cheated her brother out of all he owned. Warren is asked by his cousin Clarissa to keep an eye on Delia as she is worried about her. It is the last thing Warren wants to do, but becomes intrigued by what Delia may be involved in and while following her discovers her secret. Their adventures lead to some scrapes that lead to a bit of trouble that neither want, but must work through.  This third book was good, but not my favorite of the series.

The Cactus by Sarah Haywood
Susan's mother has just died and the will leaves the house to her brother for as long as he wants to live there.  Susan is sure that her brother Edward has somehow influenced their mother in the writing of the will and sets out to prove it. Meanwhile, she at 45, has also just learned that she is pregnant. People find Susan quirky, some find her unlikeable for her "strange" ways.  She doggedly pursues what she feels is right, but secrets are slowly revealed that could change everything.  A delightful debut.

Nickel by Winter Travers (audio) #1
First book in the Fallen Lords MC series.  Karmen is having a bit of trouble.  Nickel is willing to help her because she took such great care of his grandmother in the nursing home. Karmen's insecurity did become annoying at times. Nickel has to work hard to convince her of his admiration. Paul Brion and Melissa Barr's narration of the characters banter kept me listening.  The secondary characters were of more interest to me.

Up Next:
When We Found Home by Susan Mallery
The Policeman's Daughter by Trudy Nan Boyce
Sunburn by Laura Lippman

A few hours left to enter for 8 audiobooks here.

Spent a couple of days on the couch sick last week. I was one of the lucky ones to get this early summer flu that was going around.  Thankfully I was able to read a little bit and that I was better before the heat wave hit.  Hope you have been able to keep cool!  Happy Fourth of July.

Happy 4th of July! I'm glad you're feeling better. Both my brother and I are dealing with summer colds that include a lingering cough. I'm getting tired of coughing but it isn't slowing down my reading. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

I keep seeing The Cactus (in my professional life). I thought it didn't sound like quite my thing, but the cover is gorgeous. Maybe I should give it a try.
