Weekly Reading Wrap Up (SP/IMWAYR?)

Fifty Fifty by James Patterson and Candice Fox #2
Det. Harriet (Harry) Blue is ready to do what it takes to prove that her brother Sam is innocent of the charges against him. The powers at be don't want her around as they are sure they have their man. Harry has a hard time keeping a lid on her temper, and after she hits the prosecutor, she is sent away to a small town to investigate a situation. The story goes back and forth between Harry's investigation and what is happening with Sam's case. Both stories keep the pages turning.  Harry is a great character and it I look forward to what happens next in both her and Sam's life.

The Wolves of Winter by Tyrell Johnson (audio)
I could not stop listening to this debut novel. Jayme Mattler nailed Gwendolyn (Lynn)'s voice in this post apocalyptic world. Her family left Chicago just as the flu that wiped out most everything hit and landed in Alaska and later settled in the Yukon.  It has been seven years living off the land with her mother, uncle, brother, friend and neighbor when she comes across a stranger and his dog in the woods. This meeting sets of a series of events that changes everything. It is best to go into this book/audio without knowing much about the book. This book will definitely be on my favorite of 2018 list. I really hope there will be a sequel to this story!!

The One You Can't Forget by Roni Loren (#2)
Rebecca is a successful lawyer hoping to make partner soon. She has a reputation for being  the go to the divorce attorney. She is doing all she can to help her father with his campaign. Her being a survivor of a school shooting 10 years ago is a platform her father wants her to capitalize on, but no one knows what really happened and she feels like an imposter. Wes knows how it feels to lose everything. They meet the night she is mugged. Wes is outside her comfort zone and she likes it, but holds him at arms length. He teaches at risk kids to cook and his project of renovating a food truck is just the project Rebecca wants to support.  They navigate their attraction and just may be what each other  needs. This is book two in the series and while it does stand alone well, the first book helps this story.

The Thief by J.R. Ward (#16)
Book sixteen in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series has the brothers facing a new enemy. One  they can't see and need to figure out a way to fight back.  To keep herself and her grandmother safe Sola left Caldwell as well as Assail. Assail is fighting for his life.  Sola will risk their safety to come back to help Assail recover. Both of their pasts and Assail's secret threatens them. Intertwined with their story is Vishous and Jane's issues. A couple of reveals will be continued in future books. Always a pleasure to return to this world and characters.

Ruthless King by Megan March (#1) audio
Keira is recently widowed and discovers that her husband put her family's distilling business up as collateral for a loan.  When she finds out he borrowed from a ruthless business man she fears for her business.  His request for payment confirms his reputation as ruthless, dangerous and secretive. How far will she go to save her family business? This is book one of a three book story arc and ends with a twisty cliffhanger. Expertly narrated by Grace Grant and Joe Arden.
