Weekly Reading Wrap Up (SP/IMWAYR?)

Silver Silence by Nalini Singh (#1/16)
This was a good spot to jump into this author's work. While it has characters from a 15 book series, it is also the beginning of a new chapter to the series.  I did not feel lost in learning about the Psy or Changeling characters. It was glued to the 452 pages of Silver and Valentin's story.  Looking forward to the next book.

The Darkest Corner by Liliana Hart (audio) #1
Tess has been working hard at her small town's funeral home. Her goal was to eventually take over the business. She was blindsided when it was sold out from under her, but the owners asked her to stay on with a few caveats. There would be a team of men that would come and go and she was not to ask any questions.  One night she awoke to find an unexpected body on her table.  It was more of a shock when the body moved. She is determined to find out just who Deacon and his team really are and why they chose this small town's funeral home.  Deacon is tired of lying to Tess and when their latest mission is discovered he tells her the truth. She is quickly pulled into their intrigue as we learn all about these Gravediggers and their mission.  Jonathan Todd Ross and Devra Woodward narrated the alternating voices of Deacon and Tess. A good start to a series.

Lady Jenny's Christmas Portrait by Grace Burrowes (audio)
Book 8 in the Windham series features Jenny looking forward to pursuing her dream of being an artist and traveling to Paris to study.  When Elijah Harrison arrives to paint a portrait of her nephews in order to help him get admitted to the Royal Academy. They form a bond. Both have hurts and find in each other kindred spirits and are willing to help the other at their own loss. Their romance is slow and sweet and a good conclusion to this series.  James Langton does a good job narration but at times goes a little high on the women's voices.

Nothing Short of Dying by Erik Storey
Nothing short of dying would prevent Clyde Barr of coming the his sister Jen's rescue when asked. They have been separated for 16 years when he took off mostly trying to out run his past. He feels guilty for leaving her and jumps at the chance to help. With a little help from a few friends and bodies piling up he gets close to his goal. A fast, paced action filled debut story that leave you wanting more Clyde Barr.

I am glad you have had a nice holiday weekend, Nise'. Mine has been rather laid back, which I guess is good considering how busy we've been as of late.

I hope you enjoy The Girl Who Knew Too Much! It sounds like you've read some great books lately.

Have a great week!

I'm reading bios this month and just seeing your romances makes me a little twitchy. Maybe I can find a romantic memoir?
