Weekly Reading Wrap Up (SP/IMWAYR?)

I've got some issues with photo hosting on my blog and hope to get them resolved soon!

Mississippi Blood by Greg Iles (#3)
Penn Cage's life took a turn that has him grief filled, bent on revenge with a fear so deep he can hardly breath.  His father Dr. Tom Cage is on trial for the murder of his long time nurse Viola. As a former prosecutor now Mayor, Penn knows he can't defend his dad properly, but he does want to be involved.  His dad has hired legendary attorney Quinton Avery and Penn is relieved until the trial begins and he is being kept out of the loop.  There are secrets that have been buried for over 40 years. Some of them have been revealed, and as shocking, deadly and terrifying as they may be, the rest must come out. Penn can't believe how Quinton and his dad are handling the trial and every day that passes, he is sure his dad will be convicted. He believes in the system, but desperation may force him to tread further over that line he thought he'd never cross. Those just as determined to keep the secrets buried have no qualms about doing whatever it takes, and the round the clock protection Penn and his family have may not be enough. This third book of the Natchez Burning trilogy that has rung every emotion out of me.  Greg Iles does an excellent job of weaving past and present into a totally absorbing story of love, murder, revenge, forgiveness and reconciliation.  The violence and language reflects what happened in the south in the 60s.  Brilliantly narrated by Scott Brick. This book is character heavy and he does a great job keeping them all separate and distinct. Well worth the 28 hour listen!

The Fix by David Baldacci (#3)
As Amos Decker is walking into the FBI building he witnesses a man shoot a woman, and then himself. As the details of who is involved becomes known nothing makes sense, and Amos is all about things making perfect sense. Because of his extraordinary skills the Bureau wants this ex-cop on their payroll. But when they conclude their findings on the case Amos is anything but finished with the investigation. Even when another agency takes over in the name of national security and tells Amos to back off, he doesn't as he is determined to figure it all out. His dogged determination almost gets his friend Alexandra killed as they get closer to the truth of how those two individuals are connected.  Kyf Brewer and Orlagh Cassidy team up to narrate this thriller with rapid fire action and suspense that made a 12 hour car trip pleasurable.

The Night Mark by Tiffany Reisz
Faye's grief has been overwhelming. First the loss of a husband and then in her second marriage the loss of pregnancies. When a friend offers her a job of photographing a light house she jumps at the chance to make some needed changes in her life.   She is intrigued by it's history - a keeper home from the war in 1921 loses his daughter in a drowning. While researching she is hit by a wave and wakes up in 1921 at the lighthouse with Carrick Morgan. As she lives another woman's life she is drawn to Carrick. wants to uncover the secrets, but finds herself drawn to him and wondering if she can stay.  The story easily shifts between past and present and leaves you wanting more of Faye and Carrick.

It was a busy week flying down to Florida to help my mom close up her house and drive her north for a few weeks to escape the heat as well as meet her new great grandsons. Audio again was the main focus of my week. Hope to kick back and get some print reading down in the next couple of weeks.

A lot of blogs have this issue. With blogger, you can download images directly to blogger itself. I know Photoshop now charges and it's outrageous. Good luck!

Sounds like a busy week! I hope you weren't affected by the storm that went through- I heard Grand Haven got hit pretty hard!

So sorry you got hit with the photo issue. I really need to get that last Iles book -- Scot Brick is great. The night mark sounds like it could be fun.

Hope your mom has a great visit with the new little guys!

28 hour listen? Wow, that's dedication - I think I'd only tackle a long book like that if I was taking a major road trip.

Wasn't Natchez Burning a great trilogy? Have you read other Iles? I've ready every one, and they're all good.

It's been ages since I've read a Greg Iles book. We're in the last few days in our current place. It seems like the work to move will never end. Come see what I'm reading when I'm not packing.

I read the first Penn Cage book after hearing Iles on the book tour for this one. He's worth a drive if you ever get to hear him speak!
