Weekly Reading Wrap Up(SP/IMWAYR?)

Almost Sisters by Joshilyn Jackson
Leia Birch Briggs's life is upside down.  She has contracted to write a prequel of her popular graphic novel and has absolutely no ideas.  The reports she is getting about her Grandmother are distressing.  Leia is on her way to get things in order to move her grandmother to assisted living. On top of all this she is pregnant from a one night stand and has no idea how to contact the baby's father or tell her family. Because her stepsister's marriage is falling apart, Leia finds her 13 year old niece Lavender coming along to with her.  When she arrives she finds Birchie and her long time friend Wattie determined to fight her all the way on leaving the family home.  Birchie and Wattie become desperate and try to escape, but a discovery sets off a chain of events that can't be stopped.  Birchie and Wattie' story, at times heartbreaking, is told with humor and honesty.  This author always delivers a great story with characters that you know are going to pull your heartstrings.

Blush For Me by Kristen Proby (audio) #3
Katrinia (Kat) it the owner of the wine bar Seduction. She has been fearless, along with her four friends, to get this business up and running. When she needs to get on a plane to fly to a wine conference she is anything but.  Her seatmate, "Mac" ends up holding her hand helping her make it through the flight.  They realize they are attending the same conference as well as staying at the same hotel, and agree to have a "no strings" fling. Of course, arriving home they both can't get the other out of their minds.  Mac walks into her wine bar and says he wants more and is willing to do what it takes to win her over. His swoon worthy efforts made this such a fun book that had me listening every chance I could. Even though this was the third book in the Fusion series, I didn't feel lost with the characters. Abby Craden narrates Kat's sassy, sarcastic, kick butt personality exceptionally and, as always Sebastian York gets the handsome, alpha-male voice perfectly that is always a pleasure to listen to.  Looking forward to Riley's story.

Crime Song by David Swinson (#2)
Retired Detective turned PI Frank Marr is asked by his aunt to keep on eye on his cousin Jeffrey.  She is worried and has good reason.  Frank tracks him  and finds out he is working as a dealer.  He wants to know more for a variety of reasons, one being that he is an addict and this could lead to him replenishing his stash.  Shortly after he returns home to find that his house has been broken into and a dead body is found in the kitchen. He soon discovers that he has stepped into something, but will get to the truth even if it lands him in a place he doesn't want to be.  Frank is a flawed character that at times is hard to like, he tries to do right, but his methods aren't always honest. A great follow-up, with plenty of action, to the first book The Second Girl

Falling for the Highlander by Lynsay Sands (#4)
Murine is hoping that the Scotsmen that are coming to sell some horses to her brother will take a message back with them to her best friend.  She overhears her brother offer her as payment for the horses since he doesn't have enough coin.  Dougall is horrified by the offer and refuses. When Murine hears that her brother will offer her to the neighbor for coin so he can purchase the horses she runs away - on a bull that she raised from a calf. Dougall and his brothers traveling back home stumble across her and decide that they will protect her and take her home with them. Dougall becomes very protective of her and wards off his brothers who would be more than happy to marry her. Their trip home is a bit slower due to her medical condition. They are being pursued so a decision must be made of what to do to protect Murine.  A quick, funny and sweet read.

Isaiah Quantabe (IQ) is a genius destined for something big.  With the encouragement of his older brother he is determined to get out of neighborhood. When his brother is gunned down his life changes. Trying to avoid foster care he uses his intelligence helps him to figure out crimes that people bring to him which gets him a reputation.  Complete thoughts on June 2

Crime Song looks good! I do like flawed protagonists at times, especially in crime fiction.

Looks like a cooler week but maybe nice for Memorial day weekend?

I'm adding the Second Girl to my wishlist. I like to read mystery series in order, when possible.

My husband is home. My daughter had two pieces in her school's art show. And we got new cement poured at the bottom of our stoop. Come see what I'm reading.
