Mercy Kilpatrick wondered who she ticked off at the Portland FBI office. She stepped out of the car and walked past the two Deschutes County Sheriff SUVs to study the property around the lonely home in the wooded east-side foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Rain plunked on Mercy's hood, and her breath hung in the air. She tucked the ends of her long dark curls inside her coat, noting the large amount of debris in the home's yard. What would appear to be a series of overgrown hedges and casual piles of junk to anyone else, she immediately identified as a carefully planned funneling system. "What a mess," said Special Agent Eddie Peterson, who'd been temporarily assigned with her.
A Merciful Death by Kendra Elliot (releases today)
The girl started his espresso, and Eddie looked over his shoulder at Mercy. "She could be you twenty years ago," he said in a low voice, a question in his eyes. Uh-oh.

So, the setting of Portland attracts me right off. Assuming this is a series?
You had me at the Portland setting...and now I'm intrigued and wondering if the descriptions of the opening lines will be significant. Thanks for sharing...and here's mine: “THE VANISHING YEAR”
I read another book recently with a Portland setting so had to check out whether this was the same author. It isn't. She's written quite a few thrillers judging by the titles and covers. I'd maybe go back to the first one to start but this one is intriguing. I'll look forward to your review of it. Thanks for sharing. Here's my link for today's intro/teaser: http://wp.me/p4DMf0-1s6
This opening definitely makes me want to read more!
I do like the sound of this one and the setting --haven't heard of it.
I'm very familiar with Portlan and will read the book for that reason. I like the opening and the teaser too. Here's hoping its great.
I used to live in Maine near Portland, and know it well and enjoy stories set there!
I just wanted to let you know that yes, not only would I continue reading this one, but I just bought a few Melinda Leigh e-books on Amazon yesterday when I read your post (her books are only .99 each at the moment, subject to change). I couldn't resist and am now reading Midnight Exposure (book 1 of that series) and enjoying it. I think I made a good investment and have plenty of Ms. Leigh's books in my reading future.
I'm looking forward to your thoughts on this one!! I have a copy sitting waiting on my Kindle as well :)
