Tuesday Intro/Teaser

First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros is a weekly meme hosted by Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea every Tuesday. To participate share the opening paragraph or two of a book you've decided to read based on that paragraph. Please feel free to join in, First Chapter~First Paragraph~Tuesday Intros.

Nick Mason's freedom lasted less than a minute. He didn't see it then, but he'd look back on that day and mark those first free steps through the gate, after five years and twenty-eight days inside. Nobody was standing over him, nobody was watching him, nobody was telling him where to go and when. He could have walked anywhere in that moment. Pick any direction and go. But the black Escalade was waiting for him, and as soon as he took those thirty steps and opened the passenger's side door, his freedom was gone again.

The Second Life of Nick Mason by Steven Hamilton

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jenn/ MizB of A Daily Rhythm and hosted at Books and A Beat

I knew this man had power, he said to himself, but that was a federal prison I walked out of today. How does one man make that happen?

That's a very intriguing opening paragraph. I feel sorry for the guy and I don't even know him!? I'm going to get this one,

Wow, it sounds as though he has made a choice he won't be able to live with. Or maybe he had no choice.

I'm curious. Thanks for sharing, and here's mine:

I've read many books in Steve Hamilton's other popular northern series, but hadn't heard of this one-- enjoy!

What a great opening - I think he should have hung onto his freedom but I want to know who's in that car!

Interesting opening. He's free yet not free. I like the twist and you have me curious.

That doesn't bode well, does it? I definitely want to know more about his situation. Thanks for sharing, Nise'.

That opening raises lots of questions. Why had he been in jail? How did the black Escalade change his life? I'd keep reading to find answers.
My Tuesday post features MIAMI MORNING.

The intro leaves me curious for more. I've never tried this author.
