Weekly Reading Thoughts (SP?IMWAYR?)

After the Fall by Noah Hawley (audio)
Scott, a struggling artist and four year old J.J. are the only survivors of a private plane crash.  Scott swam all night with J.J. the young heir to a multi-million dollar fortune and their relationship raises eyebrows as well as questions of just how does Scott relate to this family.. What happened and how are the passengers related are told in alternating character chapters raising more questions of what really happened. When the media gets involved it gets even crazier. Robert Petkoff narrated the many characters very well and kept me listening even when getting a bit bogged down.  The ending was bit of a let down, but overall a good listen.

One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Emma fell in love with her husband as a teenager.  They lived an exciting life traveling all over the world.  Jesse takes a job right before their first anniversary and goes missing, presumed dead.  Emma is devastated. She decides to move back home and puts the pieces back together with the help of her parents.  She reconnects with Sam, a friend from high school. Three years later they are engaged when she gets a call from Jesse.  He is alive and is returning home. Emma doesn't know what to do, how to feel and knows the decision she has to make will hurt.  I liked these characters, their situation was heartbreaking and the book was well written.  A good summer read.

Little Girl Gone by Gerry Schmidt (#1)
Rock climber Afton is a family liaison officer with the Minneapolis PD. She partners with Detective Max and they are called in on a baby kidnapping case. We know right away who did the kidnapping, so the case is about how Max and Afton connect the dots to the kidnappers. A good start to a new series that was fast paced with a few surprises.

Lady Pirate by Lynsay Sands (audio)
The time for Valoree aka "Back from the Dead Red" to retire as Captain of a pirate ship.  She is heir to a fortune, but has to get married and produce a heir.  She has a plan to go about finding just the right person to fulfill this requirement. She wants to do it mostly for her loyal crew as they have been promised a cottage and land to retire.  Daniel,  also heir to an estate, has to marry to claim his inheritance. He is a bit suspicious of this Lady and her ragtag bunch of "relatives". Valoree instantly dismisses Daniel as a possible husband, but her crew has other ideas and gets involved in the process. Daniel as a secret that could upset Valoree's plans and someone seems out to kill her.  Fun characters with hilarious situations narrated by Lorna Bennett.

Enjoyed audio on my road trip from Florida to Michigan.  Had a bit of tire trouble, but over all a good trip.  It is wedding mode now. As the groom's parents we only have a small part, but have a lot of family arriving and logistics are always a challenge.

Up Next:
Don't Tempt Me by Lori Foster
Blood Defense by Marcia Clark
'Til Death Us Do Part by Amanda Quick

Hey welcome back! Sorry to hear about the tire trouble... hope you had a good trip! I didn't make it to Coast guard but we did hit the beach a few times last month. One True Loves sounds good, I read Maybe in another Life by the same author and it was pretty good.

I've heard a lot about the ending of Before the Fall so I'm not sure I want to read it.

Welcome home! I am sorry you had more tire trouble. It's always something, isn't it? At least it seems that way even when we're travelng. I hope everything goes well with the wedding preparations! I had heard that about the end of Before the Fall, but I am glad you liked it overall.

I loved One True Loves. That pirate book looks like a lot of fun.

That's too bad about the tire trouble. I'm having some car trouble at the moment myself.

Hope you have a great week and that everything goes smoothly with your son's wedding.

I thoroughly enjoyed One True Loves...and I've been eyeing Before the Fall.

Having just come back from a road trip, I am still tired from the exhaustion of traveling. Tension, etc., plus poor roads.

Thanks for sharing your week and for visiting my blog...and enjoy those books!

That's quite a trip if my geography is telling me right. I just marked a possible Elin Hildebrand to listen to yesterday. I haven't tried her but want to. Not all of her books are available to me, I think it was The Rumour. All the best for the wedding prep.

I have "One True Loves" sitting on my TBR pile (I actually have 2 copies...I'm guessing I'll do a giveaway) and I can't wait for a gap in my reading schedule to get to it!

I was so excited to pick Before the Fall for my book of the month pick last month and have yet to read it. I think I've given up on it for the time being. I just ordered the Kindle version of One True Loves, and I haven't read Lynsay Sands in so long but love her Argeneau series.

Totally with you on Before the Fall! The ending was a letdown. Adding the others to my list :)
