Fellside by M.R. Carey (audio)
Jess Moulson is in prison. Fellside is where she believes she belongs after the fire killed a young boy Alex. She is recovering from her injuries and just wants to give up and wallow in her misery until she hears a voice. The voice of Alex. What he has to say to her changes everything, but she has to survive and be willing to fight for the truth. Brilliantly narrated by Flinty Williams. There are quite a few characters that were a challenge to keep track of at first, but once I was able to keep track of them I was immersed in the story and was surprised by the ending.
*Thanks to Mitch and Hachette Audio for this review copy*Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas (#2)
Helen met Rhys Winterborne when he was injured and convalescing at her home. She was the only one he would allow to take care of him. She was content to take care of her orchids, but he opened her up to more dreams. When he left the home, their engagement was broken. Shortly after returning to London Helen begs Rhys to take her back, that he break-up was a misunderstanding. He does, but with conditions. Rhys is a self-made man owing and operating a huge department store. He is a savvy business man with one enemy, that has a connection to Helen. Will he be able to look beyond the connection? Loved their story. Great secondary characters.
A Lowcountry Wedding by Mary Alice Monroe (#4)
Two of the three Summer girl sisters are getting married. Sea Breeze is where they all bonded every summer and there is no greater place to get married. Harper is loving all the planning that goes into the her wedding. Carson is reluctant and needs to be prodded to get anything done. Does this mean she is not as excited to get married? Older sister Dora has found love again, but wants to take it slow and be self sufficient for a bit more. There was a surprise twist in the book that added interestingly enough to the story. I loved revisiting with these characters after reading their individual stories and was a bit concerned about how the twist would change the dynamics of this family, but it turned out fantastically and a great conclusion to the previous two books. .
