I was born blue. If my mother hadn't pushed me out quick as a cat, I would have been born dead and even bluer; her cord was wrapped tight around my neck. She looked at my little blue lips, my blue toes and baby fingers, and she named me after Kali. Kali Jai. My mother was in the middle of a six-month stint in juvie for shoplifting and possession when I was born. She had thirty-six hours with me in the hospital before the state took her to finish out her sentence. My grandparents - stiff, unhappy couple that they were - got temporary custody.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jenn/ MizB of A Daily Rhythm and hosted at Books and A Beat
My friends and business partners liked me fine, but my own mother had changed her answer long ago. To be fair, the first time I asked her, I had yet to ruin her life.

I'm so excited to read this one! I hope it's good.
I've seen this one around the blogosphere and am thinking of adding it to my wish list.
I saw this somewhere else recently and it caught my eye and ended up on my to read list so a yes from me, I'd keep on reading!
I know that so many love this author. I haven't read any of her books yet, but she's on my list. I'd keep reading.
Whoa, that intro paragraph just grabs you! This sounds like one I would keep reading.
Here's my teaser at Let's Take A Shelfie.
My goodness - that is a storming first para! Does the rest of the book match that punchy start? My TT this week is a new venture for an established author - https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2016/03/08/teaser-tuesday-8th-march-2016/
I just finished this last week. I really, really liked it. The main character was so dynamic. In my review I said I probably wouldn't like her in real life, but she fit that story perfectly. Enjoy Nise.
Oh, dear, that poor baby! I love the intro!
I definitely want to read this one!
Sounds so sad, but I am curious as to what happened to the little girl, was she reunited with her mother or grew up with her grandparents. I would probably read this one. Enjoy!
I remember this intro --sad. I liked this one but, didn't think it was Jackson's best.
I gotta wonder just how her life gets ruined. Seemed to me it was that way form the beginning.

Great teaser! I've only read one of her books but now I'm curious about this one!
I loved this book! Hope you are enjoying it too, and thanks for visiting my blog.
I can tell by the opening paragraph, that this is going to be a harrowing read. However, I would continue reading this. Thanks for visiting my blog!
This one sounds good. Although I wish she'd named her something to go with blue -- Sapphire or Sky. Here's Mine
I enjoyed this book -unconventional characters, to say the least.
