Weekly Wrap UP (SP/IMWAYR?)

The Art of Crash Landing by Melissa DeCarlo

Mattie's life can be literally carried in six trash bags.  It is all she can find to get her stuff out of her boyfriends apartment. She hasn't mastered the art of running away. She stays a couple of days with her step-father who loves her, but his girlfriend does not.  When she learns that she may have inherited something from her Grandmother in Oklahoma, she does what she does best and runs away from her life.  What she find there is nothing that she expected.  Everyone seems to know her mother, but are not talking.  This mystery is just what she needs to avoid her own troubles and actually turns out to be just what she needs.  Mattie is hilarious, relatable and you can't help but root for her to turn her life around.  A wonderful debut.

Devil's Bridge by Linda Fairstein (#17)
A fugitive that has threatened retaliation and a case against a sex trafficker has Alexandra Cooper a bit stressed out.  It is discovered that someone hacked into her computer which not only compromises her current case, but could cause other problems as well.  After getting together with her friends and colleagues, Alex leaves and disappears.  It takes a few hours to figure out that she is truly missing, and the race begins to figure out when, where, how and why. The story is told of Mike Chapman's POV, which I loved! We saw him a different level than before and learned just how much he cares for Coop.  We are treated to not only a suspenseful race to figure out what happened to Alex, but get a lot of New York history.  We are left with a couple of story lines that I hope will be picked up in the next novel.

I'll Really Do Miss Your Smile by Susan May Warren (#0.5)
This is a bonus novella in the Christiansen family series.  It is the story of how John and Ingrid met and fell in love.  Ingrid visited the resort in the summer with her family.  She loved coming and couldn't imagine why anyone would want to leave.  John, a football standout, couldn't wait to get out and make it in the NFL. A quick sweet read.

Will's True Wish by Grace Burrowes (#3)
Third book in the True Gentleman's series.  Will is a second son.  He has found a niche in training dogs. He has always had a tender heart Lady Susannah.  When dogs of the elite go missing, Susannah is convinced that Will needs to find the dogs and collect the reward.   Touring the book with a giveaway on Feb. 3.

November 9 by Colleen Hoover

Fallon is hoping moving from California to New York will help her get back into acting.  Her contract for a hit show was not renewed after surviving a fire.  She is meeting with her dad on November 9, the anniversary of the fire.  He is not supportive of her move and has no trouble being a jerk about it to her.  Just as she is at the end of her rope with her dad, a handsome young man slips into their booth and pretends to be her boyfriend.  This stranger does more to give her encouragement than her father, and they leave the diner together.  They hit it off and joke around with each other for the rest of the day.  Ben convinces her to meet him on the same day next year.  They give each other some goals to accomplish during the next year.  They meet a few more years only for one day until a secret is revealed.  Will it be the end of this strange relationship?  I immediately like Ben.  Fallon took a bit more to grow on me. I rooted for these characters and was so surprised by the twist.  It was alluded to early on, but I did not guess!  I look forward to this author's next book.

Up Next:
By Break of Day by M.L. Buchman
Blood Red by Wendi Corsi Staub
The Mark and the Void by Paul Murray

The dreaded flu bug caught me last week.  I did everything I could to out run it.  Thankfully, it lasted just a couple of days, it could have been worse.  So far the cough that many are getting has not developed yet and I hope I am spared!  I am almost finished with The Martian on audio since it was all I could do for about 36 hours.  It is frustrating to be sick and unable to read!  Have you managed to out run the flu so far this year?

I've heard so much about Colleen Hoover's work. It sounds like it's for good reason. I'm pretty sure I have November 9 in my stacks.

I used to be so on top of Linda Fairstein's series, and somewhere along the line I let myself fall behind. I don't think I'm terribly behind--just a little behind. Devil's Bridge sounds like a good one. I admit to not being Mike Chapman's biggest fan, but reading a book from his perspective will be interesting. The Art of Crash Landing sounds like a good one!

I am glad you are feeling better, Nise'. And I really hope you don't get that cough. So far, I've been lucky, but I keep expecting to get sick. It's going around big time at my office.

I hope you have a great week!

I like most of your new books / reads this week again Nise'.

And I'm so sorry to hear you've had the flu but glad it didn't last too long. Take care so it doesn't come back (which is what happened to me last winter!).

PS. Love the sound of The Art of Crash Landing!

Darn flu, hope you keep the dreaded cough at bay, it can hang on for months and you don't need that. But glad it was short-lived and you're feeling better.
So glad you liked November 9 too, I didn't guess the twist either. I'm putting The Art of Crash Landing on my wishlist ... eek, I wish I read faster. Have a great week and happy reading :)

Love the sound of Crash Landing, heroine sounds very much like Cathy Lamb's heroines. Going to mark it to read!
Flu... hope it's getting better, I aways get a flu jab and seem to have escaped it for a number of years. I like how an audiobook is good when you are sick or just too darn tired to read.

Sorry to hear that you've been under the weather. The flu has been going around here as well. Keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get it too.

Hope you are feeling better and have a great week.

I think I'm the only one left on the planet who hasn't read a book by Colleen Hoover! November 9 sounds intriguing, I'll have to keep my eye out for it at the library :)

I hope you feel much better this week - one thing I hate about getting sick is that it makes it difficult for me to read. I am intrigued by November 9 as well - the book cover really looks interesting.

Several of the books on your list have made it to my list now! How will I ever get all the books I want to read, actually read? Just like eating an elephant, I guess. One bite(book) at a time. :)

Your first book sounds intriguing. I believe life is never perfect and we make mistakes or choose wrong paths more than once. But as we get older there is room for triumph and continuous growth.

The Art of Crash Landing sounds good, something I may read when I want a distraction from Thrillers. I have Blood Red on my list for this year.

Nice looking assortment of books. I have been meaning to give Linda Fairstein a try but haven't yet. I have been staying quite healthy so far this winter except for some itchy eyes due to allergies. I hope my good luck continues. Here is what I read last week. Happy reading!

The Art of crash Landing sounds good, I'm already curious what she finds in Oklahoma! LOL. I have dodged the flu I think (hope I don't jinx myself) although I did get a little cold, it passed after a week or so so I'm guess I'm OK! Hope you have great week!
