After The Storm by Linda Castillo
A young girl searching for a token to help her popularity at a barn with a legend witnesses a fight that leads to a horrific crime. Another young woman ran way from her home and is waiting for her boyfriend so they can run away together. Thirty years later a tornado hits Painter's Mill. Chief Kate and John are out fighting the weather to help people in trouble. They rescue a baby and her mother. A troop of Boy Scouts are helping with the clean-up and discover a human skull. The past never stays buried, but there is someone trying to keep the secrets buried. Chief Kate is determined to discover the truth. Another great installment in this series.
Orphan #8 by Kim van Alkemade
Rachel was orphaned at age four. She and her brother went to live at the Hebrew Infant Home. She was used as a test subject using x-rays by the doctors at the home. When she was a teenager she stole a friends money to go to Colorado and find her brother. What she finds there is more than she expected. As a young woman she returns home to New York and works as a nurse in a Hospice home. The Dr. that performed the medical research becomes a patient and Rachel begins an experiment of her own. A powerful, heart-wrenching debut of fear, loss, forgiveness and redemption.
Breaking Twig by Deborah Epperson
Becky "Twig" has been the victim of ugliness that you would never wish on your worst enemy. She is determined to break free of her family dysfunction, but just keeps finding herself in situations that take advantage of her. As the story unfolds, the why of those that take advantage of her is known, which makes you root for Twig all the more. Even though the subject matter of this book was difficult, it was an enjoyable read which I credit the author for the ability to make awful characters, heartbreaking situations and struggles into a good story.

The snowfall is pretty but looks cold. We are supposed to get into the 30s tonight which is hard for the Florida people. I am going to check out Linda Castillo series and Orphan #8 looks good too!
Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Reading!
Orphan #8 sounds really interesting. Happy Thanksgiving. I am going home to visit my parents and we definitely plan to avoid stores on Friday!
Oh, I see several books I like the look of...especially Breaking Twig. Enjoy...and thanks for sharing.
Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
Beautiful snowfall pic, I can't even imagine snow right now although I could do with a little cooling down, the heatwave here has been pretty dreadful and so early.
I've got Orphan Number 8 on my kindle, might have to push it up the list after reading your thoughts. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy the extra time reading & watching DVR'd shows, I'm with you ... I'd be avoiding the stores at all costs lol
There was a lot of buzz around Orphan #8 at BEA and it sounds like it was for good reason. I'm looking forward to reading it.
I like your Fridayplans, I'm avoiding the stores on that crazy day. LOL.
Love that first fall of snow. So envious, although I know there are downsides to snow! Orphan #8 sounds interesting and somewhat heartbreaking.
Oh Nise' I love your books this week - all very tempting.
As for the snow... Just lovely but scary when it gets so cold (or hot, as it's been here in Australia) so early in the season!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Snow already? It is pretty, though.
Have a great week!
The snow really is pretty, but it always is at the beginning of the season :-)
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I avoid the stores on Black Friday. We usually watch football, movies, play cards, etc. - anything but shop.
Have a terrific Thanksgiving! I'm looking forward to reading a lot over the break! Thanks for your terrific book suggestions.
Orphan Number Eight sounds like a really interesting read. Also heard a lot of good things about Did You Ever Have A Family. I hope you enjoy your upcoming reads... And have a lovely Thanksgiving!

My It's Monday, What Are You Reading
I have read a couple of books in that series by Castillo. I really should read more of them. They sound really good. This is what I read last week. Happy reading!
I am quite curious about Orphan #8. Awesome haul this week Nise' I hope you have a wonderful week.
After the Storm sounds like a good one, I hand't heard of that series before. Snow is always so pretty, although it can be a bit unhandy when you have to go soemwhere. We haven't gotten snow yet this year, but that's not unusual as we usually don't get snow till december or january if we get any at all.
Orphan Number Eight looks really good. I hope you enjoy what you're reading now!
Check out my Sunday Post
The snow is pretty but it can stay up there as far as I'm concerned! :-) Orphan #8 sounds really good. Enjoy your week, and Happy Thanksgiving!
Orphan Number Eight sounds like an emotional read. Happy reading.
Orphan No 8 looks like my kind of read - did you know about the book Orphan Train? I heard it's good as well - may be a great companion book for the one you have here.
We were supposed to get snow last weekend, too, Nise' but that never happened. Now it's just raining, raining, raining.
Your new books look great, and I hope you'll enjoy them all. Orphan Number Eight especially caught my attention.
Have a fantastic week and happy reading.
