Weekly Reading Wrap Up

Searching For Always by Jennifer Probst (audio)
Officer Stone Petty has been ordered to attend an anger management course run by Arilyn Meadows after he loses it with a suspect on an arrest.  She is also a vegan, meditating, dog rescuing yoga instructor.  Totally opposite of Stone.  Stone plans to show up and get his return to work slip signed, he has no idea how she will suck him into her life.  He, of course, fights it for awhile, but is a goner when Arilyn gets him to take care of a pink sweater wearing rescue chihuahua. Even though this was the fourth book in a series, it stood alone well.  Read by Madeline Maby, a new to me narrator.

The Arrivals by Meg Mitchell Moore
The Hawthorn family looks like the prefect family from the outside, but they are far from it. Mom Nora is juggling her career as a realtor and being involved at her kid's school.  Dad Gabe's job just got uncomfortable with a new intern.  Angela, a senior in high school is trying to keep her valedictorian status as well as getting her early Harvard application completed.  Cecily is working hard so that her dance team will make worlds.  Youngest Maya is still unable to read, and Nora is sure it is her fault.  Secrets are being kept that come to light and threaten everything the family knows.  Told in the alternating character's voices we learn their deepest secrets as well as their true desires, and it enabled us to get to know each character better and want them to figure it out!

Secret Sisters by Jayne Anne Krentz
Maddie is returning to a hotel where she suffered a traumatic event.  The caretaker has summoned her there to reveal what he has discovered about the past, as well as the present. Maddie's security expert Jack arrives after the caretaker dies and Maddie is threatened. Her childhood friend Daphne also involved in the traumatic event has been threatened.  She comes to the small town to help.  Jack's brother Abe also teams up with the threesome to figure out what is going one. As the past unravels things get dark and twisty.  Even though I had the culprit figured out there was a surprising twist that added to the enjoyment of this book.

It has been fun watching all the Thanksgiving themed cooking shows.  I've got a couple of recipes I want to try this year.  Still having the family favorites, but will add a couple of new things.  Is your family up for new dishes, or do they want the tried and true?

Hmm so a lot of fun was had with the leaves! Good to see you are postive about the new JAK, the first one I have come across. The Admissions sounds very readable and I adore the description of Searching for Always. Can just see the pink sweater chihuahua and Stone Petty!

I've requested Secret Sisters Nise' so I hope I get it. I don't mind if I guess 'whodunnit' if there's a good twist or two!

I love the pic of your grandson and the leaves. So gorgeous.

Hope you have a lovely week.

I want to read The Admissions! I'll watch for your review. What fun to have little boy help with the leaves. We had our great grandson for a visit this weekend. He is just two and very busy. It is so much fun to see the world through their eyes. Everything is an adventure.

The Admissions looks interesting. I think it can be tricky to write from so many points of view, especially if some are kids. I'm glad it worked in this book!

I liked Secret Sisters too. I read Dark Turns and liked it as well. I haven't planned my Thanksgiving yet but suspect it will only be tried and true favorites. Check out my week here. Happy reading!

We don't celebrate thanksgiving here, but in most occasions I like to try some new things, but also try some familiar recipes now and then. I like having a mix of the two.

Cute pic!

My family tends to have the same Thanksgiving dishes every year, but apparently they aren't traditional. We spent our first Thanksgiving with my in-laws last year and I was like, "Where's the mac n cheese and the sausage balls?" My husband tells me those are not traditional dishes to anyone other than my family. :-) We do have turkey with all the trimmings too, but with so many picky eaters, we've gotten creative to keep everyone happy. Enjoy your week!

My family seems to stick to the tried and true, but I did introduce the Pioneer Woman's Nantucket Cranberry pie to the mix two years ago - and people liked it! :) I can't believe Thanksgiving is just about here! Looking forward to hearing what you end up making.

I've seen The Arrivals around but am still not sure if it offers anything I haven't read already.
