Reading Wrap-Up/What Are You Reading?

Sheila at Book Journey hosts this weekly event where we celebrate what we are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week. I use this this weekly meme as a way to give short, concise thoughts on the books I've read.  While Shelia is on hiatus, I am linking up with The Sunday Post.

My grandson Cole's first birthday was Friday.  We spent a fun day together and he loved his birthday treat.  On Saturday we went to the zoo to see the new tiger sanctuary.  We will be hosting a family celebration this coming Saturday.

Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:

Before He Finds Her by Michael Kardos

Melanie has lived with her aunt and uncle in witness protection for the last 15 years.  She is a freshman in college and doesn't want to live such a restricted life.  She finds out she is pregnant and is determined to not to raise her child in hiding, and wants find out what happened to her and find her father before he finds her.  While she investigates, her father's story is told in flashback form and the truth is a bit of a let down.  The build up was suspenseful but the "reveal" was anti-climatic.

Words and Their Meanings by Kate Bassett

Anna has lost her love for words while grieving the death of her "Bruncle"(brother/uncle) Joe. Her entire family is falling apart after this loss, but she has reacted with extreme measures and has promised on day 366 she will begin living again. It is harder than she expects. She meets a guy at her new job and feels she doesn't deserve the spark of attraction. She discovers a secret while keeping a secret. As Anna works through the grief  and begins to allow herself to live you can't help but be caught up in this emotional, beautifully written debut.

The Edge of Courage by Elaine Levine

This is book one in the Red Team series. Rocco was wounded while he was deep undercover with Red Team and is suffering from PTSD. He has agreed to check on his team member's sister in Wyoming. Mandy wants to open a therapeutic riding facility. There have been some accidents lately and her brother Kit is worried about why. Shortly after Rocco arrives more "accidents" begin to happen, he is torn between wanting to help Mandy and just getting away to deal with his own issues. He stays and it becomes clear that the past is coming back to get revenge. A quick freebie read that was enjoyable, but does not have me rushing to get book two..

HIT by Delilah Dawson (audio)

I listened to this book based on the narrator Rebecca Ross without really knowing what it was about, and I was thoroughly entertained. The banks rule America. Patsy comes home to find reps from Valor Savings waiting for her. She is given a choice, either work for them as a "hit" girl and her mother will get the cancer treatment she needs or  both of them will die. Patsy chooses to take the list of 10 people she must kill or get them to work for Valor Savings in 10 days. She has to record the hits with her button cam. She struggles with this decision which is a major part of the book. She meets a young man in an unusual way, and he helps her with her mission. There are a couple of twists that keep the action and suspense ramped up and the ending leads to a future book.
*Thanks to Simon and Schuster for this audio copy*

LOL. I bet Cole was so excited to see that big tiger! Happy Birthday to him!

I listened to The Stranger on audio and enjoyed it. Not as suspenseful as some of his for me but still really good. Looking forward to your thoughts on it.

And yes, I love House of Cards...Kevin Spacey is hilarious...and I watched Grace and Frankie over two days of viewing. Loved it!
