Reading Wrap-Up/What Are You Reading?

Join me in lifting Shelia and her family up in prayer after the loss of her son Justin in a car accident.

Sheila at Book Journey hosts this weekly event where we celebrate what we are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week. I use this this weekly meme as a way to give short, concise thoughts on the books I've read.

Spent a lovely Easter afternoon with my daughter attending the new production of The Phantom of the Opera.

Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:

Hold Me By Susan Mallery
It is always great to go back to Fool's Gold and see what is happening in town. After an accident, Olympic skier Kipling has taken a job in Fool's Gold. Destiny is temporarily in town to install and train volunteers on  Search and Rescue software. She is happy to make temporary relationships. Things change when she becomes the guardian of her younger half-sister and things heat up with Kipling. Destiny's upbringing makes their relationship difficult as well as hilarious. While I love this series and visiting with the residents, this story was not as in depth as I would have liked. I felt there could have been more to Destiny and Kipling than what we received.  I will, however, read the next book in the series, Kiss Me.

Evergreen by Susan May Warren
John is excited that his youngest daughter has left the nest.  He has plans to take his wife on a dream trip to Prague.  His wife has other ideas.  She is not dealing with the empty nest as well as he, and is not looking forward to Christmas without all the kids. When their older dog gets ill, the money John set aside for the trip is used for surgery.  He realizes that the problem is more than the kids leaving home.  What is causing her distance?  Will he be able to fix this like he has always done in the past?   I liked this look at the parents of this series. I could relate to much of what Ingrid was feeling.  Thankfully, they were able to communicate and work things out.

Breaking Creed by Alex Kava (audio)
Ryder Creed and his search and rescue dogs are gaining national attention.  He is glad to be doing this work, but would just as soon not be famous. He and Grace are on a job searching for drugs when they find kids that are being trafficked. On his way home with Gracie a girl that is being used as a drug mule breaks away from her handler and gets help from Ryder. He decides to help her and enlists his housekeeper Hannah. This sets off a series of events that are filled with action, suspense and a few twists.  Maggie O'Dell (a central character in another series) is investigating a case that crosses over with what Ryder is doing.   The need to work together quickly before they become victims of this Cartel. Excellent narration by Graham Winton.  I look forward to the next book in this series.

The Way of the Warrior Anthology

This book contains eight stories by various authors about wounded service men and women adjusting to life. All author and publisher proceeds to to the Wounded Warrior Project. I was familiar with three of the eight author, and was glad to be introduced to five new to me authors. Each story is different, but all were engaging and I quickly devoured these stories.

The Burning Girl by Lisa Unger (audio)
Second novella in the Whispers story trio. It is ten years after the first story and Eloise is working as a physic with partner Ray. Usually her visions give her and her partner an idea of what they need to do. This burning girl is different. It is hard for them to figure out what she wants. Another case they are working on ends in a different way than expected. Eloise learns about her past that has ramifications for her granddaughter. I look forward to the final installment. Narrated by January LaVoy.

The Duke's Disaster by Grace Burrowes
After Noah's proposal is turned down he asks Thea to marry him. Both have reasons to marry and decide they will suit each other. Another regency delight from this author. More thoughts later this week.

Up Next:
Tiffany Girl by Deanna Gist
The Look of Love by Sarah Jio

How was your Easter?  Who are you rooting for in the NCAA Championship? Wisconsin or Duke?

I have so much respect for the Wounded Warrior Project. I would probably find these hard to read though!

Yay for theater! I am so glad that Jason likes it just as much as I do. We're going next week to see Kinky Boots.

I saw Phantom with my mum, glad to hear you had a lovely time Nise. I haven't read a Alex Kava novel for years but I enjoyed the Maggie O'Dell series.

I love Phantom of the Opera and did not know they had a new version out. I've been having an urge to reread the book. It's such a complex story. Your list of books looks fun.

I enjoyed Breaking Creed also and look forward to the next installment.

I am shaken by Sheila's loss and am offering up good wishes and prayers for her family. I read her Facebook page and feel for her so deeply right now.
