The first lie Grace told Hanna was her name. "Bonjour, je m'appelle, Julie," Grace had said. She'd been in Paris for only a month, and her french was still new and stiff. She's chosen the name Julie because it was sweet and easy on the French tongue - much more so than Grace was. The best lies were the simplest and made the most sense, in the mind, and in the mouth. These lies were the easiest to swallow.
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jenn/ MizB of A Daily Rhythm
Grace had been in Paris for two years now, and she had been Julie from California since her arrival. Her life was conducted entirely in French, another kind of disguise.

Such a great opener! Hope you enjoy this.
Very interesting - now I'm curious and that means searching out the book.
My Tease
I am definitely curious now! I wonder why she feels the need to lie? Is she hiding from something? I will have to look for this one. Thanks for sharing.
I do love that opener....and I loved the book. The Paris setting was great, too; even though the book takes us to other places, Paris was a good place to start the story.
I hope you enjoy it, and here's mine: “GOLDBERG VARIATIONS”
Very intriguing opener... will look forward to your thoughts !
Very interesting! Why does she have to lie?

I am very taken with this opening, I long to know why she changed her name and what other lies she's told. Here is my Tuesday post https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2015/03/17/tuesday-first-chapter-first-paragraph-march-17/
This book has piqued my curiosity. I hope you enjoy(ed) it. Mine: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
I like the intro, and I always like a story set in Paris. I'd keep reading!
Why the lies though? Great teaser/intro!
Interesting! I've never heard of it, but from that opening line and the little blurb it intrigued me. I'm wondering what the heck is going on with "Julie".
The opener raised questions, but didn't really make me want to keep going. Well, maybe just a few pages, then I'll see.
oh yes, I would keep reading - sounds good.
