We experienced some beautiful, warm sunny weather last week that melted quite a bit of our snow! Enough that I could take my grandson for a walk. We saw two robins, a sure sign of spring. It will be a bit cooler this week, but no white stuff in the forecast.
Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:
Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer
Five teens are attending The Wooden Barn, a therapeutic school, each for different issues that have caused problems. Jam is sure nothing will ever help her get over the loss of her boyfriend. She finds out that she has been chosen to attend a special English class. This class will only have five members, that seems strange to the participants. They will read and discuss Sylvia Plath's book The Bell Jar. The instructor passes our journals and tells each student that they can write whatever they want, but that the have to write something and turn in the journal at the end of the semester. When Meg writes in the journal something happens that is amazingly wonderful. Slowly each of her classmates report they are experiencing the same thing and they decide to meet together secretly to discuss what is happening. This draws them closer and they are able to talk about what each of them has/is going through. I was a bit surprised by Jam's revelation, I expected something else, but thoroughly enjoyed the book.
The Escape by David Baldacci (audio)
The third book in the Puller series was fast-paced, full of action with twists that kept me guessing. More thoughts Wednesday.
Like A Flower in Bloom by Siri Mitchell
Charlotte has happily been working along side her botanist father as his assistant. Her uncle is convinced that now is the time for her take her rightful place as a wife and mother. Charlotte is sure that her father will not be able to get along without her and goes along with the plan figuring her father will call it off quickly. A correspondent of her father visits and agrees to be his assistant until someone else can be found. Charlotte befriends another young woman who does not want to be married and they hatch a plan that soon gets out of control. Mr. Trimble is proving himself to be an asset to her father, but seems to be more than he claims. He has been more than helpful with society's rules, but she just doesn't get these so-called rules, which leads to many funny situations. Another great read by this author.

Must be nice to get out and enjoy signs of spring after all the snow. All your books are unknowns to me, although I do have Sarah Jio's book earmarked to read, think its in my wish list to borrow from the library.
Glad you liked Belzhar--we both enjoyed it too! Now I'm reading RED QUEEN and like it a lot.
Belzar sound interesting, I'm reading an Inspector Banks mystery, very slowly.
I never expect to like Belzhar so much! Definitely not my typical type of book, but so, so good. Glad you enjoy it, too.
Everyone raves about Belzhar. I've got to get a copy.
Michigan was our state this weekend and We made a robin with paint and Gage's foot, LOL! Tomorrow they are finally putting our deck back on. Spring is in the air!
Your winter sounded like it hung around a bit too long - like our summer!
Keen to hear what you thought of The Escape.

Belzhar was my first Wolitzer. I was very impressed and will definitely look out for her earlier books now.
It also made me want to read Sylvia Plath :-)
Like the sound of both your Up Next reads

Yay to Spring, would have been fun taking Cole for a walk, I love doing things like that with Mia. I can't wait to say goodbye to Summer but it's doggedly hanging on! Must pick up The Look of Love, I do love Sarah Jio's writing. Have a good week Nise and happy reading :)
Happy reading this week :)
Spring finally, right? We've got few trees budding down here, but it seems late. I suspect we will have a banner year for wildflowers though. We've had a lot of rain and that is usually a good sign.
BELZHAR is a book I've wanted to try. Putting it on my list.
I didn't know much about Belzhar, though I've heard of the author as I bought a friend one of her books for Christmas. It sounds like a read I'd like though. Have a good week. :)
I've had Belzhar written on my list for a while. Would love to read it.
I love that Spring is finally making an appearance!
Belzhar sounds very good. I'm adding it to my list. I have Unbecoming up next as soon as I finish the book I'm currently reading! I hope you're enjoying it.
