Reading Wrap-Up/What Are You Reading?

Sheila at Book Journey hosts this weekly event where we celebrate what we are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week. I use this this weekly meme as a way to give short, concise thoughts on the books I've read.

I have not been around to visit this week due to my sciatica flaring up mid-week. We really take for granted the ability to sit and when you can't, it interferes with many things.  I thank the many of you that wished my daughter a speedy recovery after her fall.  She is back to work and slowly able to get back on her feet.

Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:

Bittersweet by Colleen McCullough
Four sisters, two sets of twins are looking forward to leaving home to get out from under their mother's control. They are daughters of the local Rector and will be living near the hospital as they train to become nurses in 1926 Australia. Edda and Grace, Tufts and Kitty are known for their beauty and want so much more for their lives. They are very close to each other and supportive to each other rather than in competition. Will each one realize their dreams or will their lives turn out totally different than they imagined? Their stories unfold slowly but intriguingly.

The Good Wife by Jane Porter
The last book in the Brennan sisters series is the story of the youngest sister Sarah. Her mother has just died and she in CA with the family. She has essentially been a single parent while her husband is playing major league baseball. She is getting tired of it and while she wants him to finish out his career on top, she also just wants him home. When she is just about ready to go home her brother-in-law is killed in a car accident. When she finally returns home she is left alone to deal with the grief, loneliness and fear that her husband Boone will be unfaithful again she falls apart. Meanwhile the first year anniversary of Lauren's son is closing in and she is finding herself unable to go back home and pick up her life and business. She is torn with wanting to do it and being unable to do it. How she meets Boone is pivotal and had me fearing where the story was going. However, knowing that Jane Porter always delivers a great story, I stuck with it and was rewarded with a good ending to this series.

Sabotaged by Dani Pettrey
The fifth and final book in the Alaskan Courage series. Reef and Kirra are paired together on the canine search and rescue team for the Iditarod when she gets the news that her uncle missed his last check-in. She sets out to see if she can find him and Reef tags along.  When they find him he tells them that his daughter Meg has been kidnapped and asks them to find her before he finishes what her kidnappers require.  They are off on a breakneck investigation that takes them all over and reveals long held secrets.  While there is plenty of adventure, most of it is a wild goose chase before they get to the truth of who has Meg and why. Reef and Kirra's romance was a subtle part of the story, but we did learn about Kirra's past.  A good conclusion to this series.

I've read Festive in Death and The Girl on the Train and enjoyed both! Haven't heard of Doctor Death - but it sounds like my sort of book! :-)

The Girl on the Train intrigues me but I am starting to think I will wait for the hype to be over.

Bittersweet sounds great and it must have been bittersweet reading it knowing of her recent death. Loved the Jane Porter series, I heard there may be another, perhaps the sister in law. Hope so.
