Reading Wrap-up/What Are You Reading?

Sheila at Book Journey hosts this weekly event where we celebrate what we are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week. I use this this weekly meme as a way to give short, concise thoughts on the books I've read.

I did all I could, but the flu found me this weekend!  Thankfully, it was not as bad as it could have been and I was able to read my way through it.  Having an extra day (MLK) to recuperate is a blessing.

Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:

Terminal City by Linda Fairstein
When you read a Linda Fairsten novel not only do you get a great crime story, you also learn interesting New York history. This novel takes us to Grand Central Terminal. A terminal that is a city all it s own with secrets that could help a killer. Three murders take place in the course of a few days and once they are determined to be linked with the threat of a bigger event the story takes off. While that is going on Alexandra is a bit confused with what is happening between her and Mike Chapman, and when she finds out he is not totally truthful with her she is even more confused. I look forward to how this relationship will unfold.

Betrayed by Lisa Scottoline
Rosato and Associates lawyer Judy Carrier is not to thrilled with her newest case that has everyone else in the firm happy. When she receives a call that her Aunt has cancer and will have surgery she rushes to her side. There she meets her aunt's friend Iris.  The next day Iris is found dead of an apparent heart attack.  Things do not add up for Judy, and when she begins to investigate things get out of control, not only with where her investigation takes her, but in her personal life as well.  I hope it won't be too long before we revisit this series.

In Your Dreams by Kristan Higgins
This was a perfect book to read on a sick day.  It kept my mind off how bad I was feeling. Jack Holland is struggling after rescuing four teenagers when their car went off a bridge into freezing water.  Three of them are fine, the fourth is in a coma. Emmaline Neal's ex-fiance is getting married and she is invited to the wedding.  To save family drama she decides to go and invites Jack along.  He needs to get away from town and agrees.  Their road to HEA is not easy.

The Good Daughter by Jane Porter

Book two in the Brennan sisters series was just a good as the first one. This is about Kit, The Good Daughter, the best teacher, the peacemaker, the good girl, always wanting to do the right thing and never be a disappointment. She has recently ended a 10 year relationship that was not going where she was expecting. Kit is seriously contemplating adoption as a single parent.  A new student enrolls in her school and becomes a secondary character in the book with a serious secret. Kit meets Jude an intriguing man that is totally not what her family would expect of her.  Will she take a chance on Jude or  be "The Good Daughter"?  I enjoyed Kit's story, it was heartbreaking, emotional and very satisfying.  I look forward to the next book.

A Little on the Wild Side by Robin Kaye
I read the first two books in the series featuring the Kincaid brothers and was eagerly anticipating Trapper's book. Judge Trapper has a 72 hour rule when it comes to women. Somehow he kept breaking this rule with Bianca and can't get her out of his mind. When she won't respond to any of his communication attempts he shows up in New York and is in for a surprise. Bianca, a strong, independent woman, a successful business owner and former super model finds herself in a position she never expected and is determined to handle it the way she has handled everything in her life..alone.  Trapper has three weeks to convince her otherwise. His family is on hand to help! Seriously entertaining, I could hardly put it down.  I hope Karma gets her own story!
*Thanks to Sourcebooks/NetGalley for this review copy*

Five More Days by Julie Lawson Timmer
I closed the cover on this book and thought, "I am not sure I liked this one".  Both characters have five days left before they have to say goodbye. The chapters alternate between Mara and Scott, both living on opposite side of the country but united loosely by a Internet forum. Both of their stories are heartbreaking, relateable on many levels, thought provoking and moving. Mara's story is hard to read, but the author does a great job with it. A well, written debut that would make a great book club selection.   Definitely need to follow this book with a couple of lighter reads!

Love some of your books this week. Yeah the K Higgins one would keep you entertained. Delighted you loved Kit's story, I did too. I read the first couple of books Robin Kaye wrote and never got back to her and so I must seek out this series. Have a much better health week.

I haven't read any of those but they look like fun - I always need something warm and fun to read in-between the heavier stuff, or on off days, so I have lots of romances etc. ready to choose from and I'm always on the lookout for new recommendations.

Hope you have a great week!

Sorry to hear the flu found you, Kristan Higgins is always a great comfort read. I'm listening to my very first Lisa Scottoline book and enjoying it and I can't wait to start on the Brennan Sisters series. Just bought the first one with my voucher from Kathryn at Book Date. Happy reading :)

Five Days Left sounds intriguing, but I definitely understand the need to have a few lighter books as follow ups. It sounds like a heavy topic.

My IMWAYR post.

Ugh, the flu is bad this year. I'm glad you were able to read your way through it. Take care of yourself!

Sorry you had the flu. Wow, that flu shot this year was said to only protect about 30% against it. Hope you feel better soon!

I love Scottoline and really want to read Fairstein as being a native NYer who would like to know more about NYC history. I almost picked up Hells Gate by her on the bargain table at B & N but thought that I needed to read the series in order. Maybe I will just jump in. Enjoy the rest of the week.

I've had 5 Days Left on my list for awhile now and keep not reading...I think because it just sounds so depressing, although I've heard it's less depressing than you would think.

Five Days Left almost broke me. But at the same time I really enjoyed it. Strange. You definitely need a few lighter reads afterwards :D

Have a great week!
