Weekly Reading ReCap/IMWAYR?

Sheila at Book Journey hosts this weekly event where we celebrate what we are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week. I use this this weekly meme as a way to give short, concise thoughts on the books I've read.

I was sick last week with a cold.  It was no fun! I did get a lot of reading done, young adult/middle grade books found their way to my hands.

Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:

The Mark of the Midnight Manzanilla by Lauren Willig
Sally Fitzhugh is bored with the season. Her friend has had success with a recent book about vampires, and it is all anyone can talk about. They are sure the Duke of Belliston is a creature of the night. Sally knows it is impossible and plans to prove everyone wrong. When they come upon a dead girl that points to Lucien, and his mysterious past, Sally is determined to clear his name. Meanwhile in the present, Eloise and Colin are tired of their long distance relationship and know that changes are needed. Book 11 in the Pink Carnation series is the second to the last one and was very enjoyable.

A Rake By Any Other Name by Mia Marlow
Richard Barrett is called home to deal with the family's financial issues. His parents have teamed up with Sophie Goodnight's parents and arranged a marriage that will be mutually beneficial to both families. Richard is practically engaged to someone else, and Sophie does not want to be chosen just because she has money. Secrets, threats, and deceit threatens both of their futures. Sophie is a strong, independent woman who challenges everything that Richard believes is his duty. A great HEA read.I hope Lawrence gets his own story.

I Kill the Mockingbird by Paul Acampora
Three best friends want to have a great summer before they begin high school. They also want to get people reading TO Kill A Mockingbird, their dead teacher's favorite book. They come up with a plan that quickly gets out of control. A short, funny, and emotional read. If you love TKAM, read this book.

Sway by Kat Spears
Jesse aka Sway is a high school senior who has a knack for getting people what they want, his observations skills and deal making has worked to make him the go to guy. He trades favors, information while keeping emotion out of his life. It has also worked to keep his mind off what happened to his mom until he gets to know Bridget. A funny, honest and at times raw debut that was enjoyable.

Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater
This books is a companion to the Shiver series. It features Cole St. Claire and Isabelle Culpepper. Cole has returned from rehab and has agreed to appear in a reality show in order to get his career jump started, but mostly in order to get Isabelle back. The reality show producers are hoping for a serious meltdown. Can Cole hold it all together? Will his secret keep him and Isabelle apart? Enjoyable and a must read for Shiver fans..

The Last Forever by Deb Caletti
Tessa's dad takes her on a road trip with 3 weeks of school left. He said it was for 2 days, it turns into weeks. They end up at her grandmother's house, a grandma she hardly knows because of something that happened with her mother and grandmother. She is grieving, alone and angry. As she gets to meet the people, especially a boy named Henry, in this small town, things begin to change. Just when she feels like things are getting better her dad returns and wants to take her home. She doesn't want to go back. Hope, healing, forgiveness and new beginnings turn these pages.

Blackbird by Anna Carey

She wakes up on the tracks in the subway with no memory of who she is and how she got there. What she does know is very little and instead of staying there and waiting for help she runs. She can depend upon no one but herself to figure out what has happened. She learns that people are after her very quickly. Once I got used to the point of view the book is written in, it was a page turner. I look forward to the next book to find out what happens next.

He's So Fine by Jill Shalvis (audio)
Olivia has come to Lucky Harbor for a new beginning. Her past a secret. She sees a man fall into the water and jumps in to save him from drowning. Saving is just what he needs. Cole is suffering from a loss that causes him to be a bit rigid in his thinking/expectations. This is my first Shalvis book and even though it is the 11th book in a series, I did not feel like I missed anything. I loved the humor in this novel. The townspeople are great secondary characters. Angele Masters narrated the book, her voices for some of the older characters did get a little annoying, but overall it was an enjoyable listen/read.

Sorry to hear you've been sick. I don't really read any YA novels but a few of those sounds interesting so I might seek some out!

Mostly all the books are unfamiliar to me, I read all the earlier Lucky Harbor books and then kind of got a little tired of them. This one sounds good. Hope you enjoy The Husband's Secret - I liked the audio of it.

Ha - I love the concept of Mockingbird...and the title! Might have to check that out.

I might have been the only person who didn't love The Husband's Secret...so many others did. I think Moriarty is just not for me :(

I just got over a cold too. While I was sick, I had to put aside a heavier book for some lighter fare. Blackbird catches my eye!

Hope you are on the mend! Even being sick, you read more books than I did. I am about ready to not post here, I feel so inferior. If I read 2 books a week, I would feel like I had really accomplished something. Oh well, old tired eyes, old tired body!

It's nice that you put some sick time to good use. I like I Kill the Mockingbird and Blackbird too. While I have only read the first in the Pink Carnation series, I have a few more on my TBR mountain. I just need to find time to fit them in. Here is my week. Happy reading!
