I spent most of last week taking care of my son who injured himself in a skateboarding accident. He had the week off to move back into his apartment, but was too banged up. I spend six hours cleaning for him (his roommate did not clean before leaving). He was able to get around a bit better so this weekend we moved him completely. Thankfully his apartment is a couple of blocks away so we are close if he needs help.
Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:
Natchez Burning by Greg Iles
This is the return of Penn Cage who is now the Mayor of Natchez. This story is mostly about his father and what happened in the turbulent sixties. Dr. Tom Cage is beloved by all and is accused of killing his long time nurse (and suspected lover) Violet Turner. Things happened 40 years ago and those secrets are threatening to come to the surface. There are many who want them to stay buried, and will do whatever it takes to make sure. Penn must race against time to keep his father, fiancee, family and friends alive. This chunkster is fast paced with twists and turns that keep you guessing. The story depicts situations and language that took place in the South during the sixties. Well worth the time commitment! I look forward to the next book in the series.
I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga
Jazz (Jasper) is the son of a serial killer. He was forced as a young child to be witness to his father's madness. As a 17 year old, he is determined not to become like his father. When a body is discovered he secretly investigates. Soon another body turns up and when it appears that is similar to his father's crimes he does become involved. His friends are more than willing to help even when it puts them in harms way. A creepy page turner that was not always best read before bed! I look forward to the sequel.
*Thanks to Little Brown Books/NetGalley for this review copy*Desert Heat by Elizabeth Reyes (audio)
I wanted to listen to this audio because it was co-narrated by Sebastian York. He does such a great job! Damien agrees to attend speed dating with his friend even though he wants nothing to do with it. The most interesting girl he meets is dressed strangely and he doesn't even get her name. Their conversation is hilarious. They meet again, he is floored by how different she looks, and can't get her out of his mind. Bethany is working like crazy to deal with a family issue, she also has secrets that she continues to keep from Damien even though she loves him which drove me nuts. I loved Damien and his family and hope there will be more stories to come. Shayna Thibodeaux did a good job with Bethany's voice..

What are mothers for! And boys will be boys, you can't wrap them in cotton wool.
Lots of books here I don't know except for SEP's book, will be interested to see what you think as it strays from her usual.
Yikes, taking good care of him sounds like. I remember those days... hope you had a good weekend. Was it as blustery by the lakeshore as it was here?
I Hunt Killers sounds creepy but intriguing. :)
I want to read Natchez Burning and Heroes are my Weakness.
Hope your son is doing better soon. It's good he lives nearby just in case he needs his Mom :) Enjoy your week.

I had so many skateboard "accidents" when I was a kid, I lost count. LOL I am a new GFC follower here tho! :-)

I've seen the Greg Isles book all around, but did not realize it is part of a series. I think I will look into the others. This one sounds great.
Hope your son is improving every day.
Oh, skateboarding always makes me nervous. My youngest son did it...and now his daughter does.
Your books looks good. I am curious about Desert Heat.
Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
I absolutely loved Natchez Burning - it did not feel like 800 pages and the evil just was jumping off the pages.
