"Vivien Walker Moise
Indian Mound, Mississippi
April 2013
I was born in the same bed that my mama was born in, and her mama before her, and even further back than anybody alive could still remember. IT was if the back wood of the bedposts were meant to root us Walker women to this place of flat fields and fertile soil carved from the great Mississippi. But like the levees built to control the mighty river, it never held us long. We were born screaming into this world, the beginning of a lifelong quest to find what would quiet us."
A Long Time Gone by Karen Walker
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. I had a trunk's worth of hurts piled in the car with me that only my grandmother Bootsie could make go away. She would forgive those long years of silence because she understood doggedness.

Nice!
I've heard good things about this one and have it on my TBR list! I'd keep reading...
Yet another good choice.
Great opening!
I must get this one! I have it bookmarked...loved the narrator's voice.
And I love Karen White books.
Thanks for sharing, and here's mine: “FALLING INTO PLACE”
I don't think I've read any Karen White books yet. I guess this title is as good as any to dive in and try. A really good beginning hook...
I love this author's writing. I would keep reading.
Such rich writing! I'm swooning!
This one has such a pretty cover. I started it when it came out in June, but didn't get very far. It was on reserve and I didn't have time to do much 'extra' readiing.
Good intro and a book I meant to try as well --- enjoy
I've read other books by this author and I'm sure I'd like this one too. The beginning makes me want to know more, and the Teaser does too.
Thank you for leaving a comment on my Friday post: KATIE AND THE IRISH TEXAN.
Great opening. I enjoyed this book. Hope you do too.
Ooohhhh...I love this. I want to read this one.
Yes, I really like this one. Seems like a book with a lot of layers.
