It is the last week of July! Our town is full of visitors this week as we celebrate the US Coast Guard. It is full of activities and fun topped off with a spectacular fireworks display.
Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:
Shotgun Lovesongs by Nicholas Butler
Little Wing is home to Hank, Leland, Kip and Ronny. Four friends that grew up together. Hank never left. Ronny, Kip and Leland moved on to bigger and better (or so they thought). Ronny returned after an accident. Kip returns to renovate the old feed mill and get married. Told in the voices of 5 characters, secrets, disappointments, desires are revealed, and loyalties are tested. A debut worth reading.
The Longest Night by Kara Braden
Ian is getting released from rehab and his brother has arranged for him to stay at an remote cabin of a friend. The friend he meets is Cecily, a veteran that lives in a small cabin in the wilderness for a reason. A quick read with a few problems.
How to Lose A Lord in 10 Days or Less by Elizabeth Michels
Book 3 in the Tricks of the Ton series that features Andrew and Katie. Andrew is returning home after a humiliating experience and finds himself being stalked. In an effort to get away he literally falls into Katie's lap. Andrew discovers that she is an unconventional Earl's daughter. A great ending to this series.
The Tea Shop on Lavender Lane by Shelia Roberts
Bailey returns home after her catering business is ruined by a false claim. She tries a few jobs before going into business with Todd, a guy her sister is dating. Opening a tea shop is just what the town needs, but will it wreck Bailey and Cecily's relationship? A delightful small town tale with great characters.
Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren (audio)
Mia and her friends take a trip to Las Vegas to celebrate college graduation. Mia meets a handsome French guy and has a great weekend. Waking up married, tired of what has become of her since her accident, Mia decides to spend the summer with him in Paris rather than going home, escaping the expectations of her father. Ansel seems to really love her and wants this relationship to work. Mia has to decide if this is more than a summer fling and what she really wants for her life. A surprisingly touching story with laughter with quite a bit of steam. Narrated by Shayna Thibodeaux .
Fear Nothing by Lisa Garner (audio)
D.D. Warren is hurt at a crime scene while investigating a possible serial killer. Her pain therapist, Dr. Adeline's sister Shana becomes a person of interest. Adeline herself has a creepy habit that makes her a suspect. Twisty, suspenseful with an ending that takes your breath away. Kirsten Potter does a great job narrating.
Up Next:
The Competition by Marcia Clark
Goodnight June by Sarah Jio
Don't Look Back by Gregg Hurwitz
