Chicago World's Fair, 1893
"Open those doors!" A woman in the new common-sense skirt shook her umbrella at a Chicago World's Fair guard. The motion raised her eye-poppingly short hemline another six inches and revealed a bit of stocking above her navy gaiters. Blocking the entrance to the International Convention of Woman's Progress, a bearded guard crossed his arms and planted his legs wide. A wave of resentment swept through the wriggling mass of females stretching clear out to the street. Eve was not the only woman to raise Cain, Billy thought, ducking and dodging her way through the sea of bonnets. Still she needed immediate admittance. That guard might not unbolt the doors for an apostle of modern bloomerism, but he'd open them for her. Dr. Billy Jack Tate.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. "But in your best opinion, could a pocketknife make that kind of laceration?" Her breath hitched. A pocketknife? Was he, was he referring to Derry's pocketknife?

This intro didn't grab me, but I hope it's just me and that you enjoy it.

That intro definitely intrigues me, and the World's Fair setting sounds like a great way to present the characters and plot.
Thanks for sharing...and here's mine: “LITTLE MERCIES”
I don't know anything about this title, but the old World's Fair setting makes it special right away. I attended the NY World's Fair in the '60s for the 2 years it was up (my parents loved it and we went constantly!). Enjoy!
Ooh, nice :)
Don’t forget to get a copy of my debut novel, THE ROSE MASTER, today!

I love that opening scene! I could just picture it in my head.
Mine is a mystery set just a few years after yours, but in NYC. The Family Way, one of Rhys Bowen's Molly Murphy series. http://wp.me/pZnGI-9f
I liked that opening paragraph, I especially liked the comparison of Eve raising Cain. It gives the reader an idea of what to expect. Thanks so much for stopping by today. Enjoy your book. kelley—the road goes ever ever on
I'm curious. Is this a cozy mystery? I definitely like the Chicago World's Fair setting.

I love the cover of this one, I do hope you enjoy your read. Here is my TT http://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2014/07/08/teaser-tuesday-july-8/
My first reaction was to read this to find out what a "common sense skirt" looked like in 1893. The rest of the first paragraph also looks good. Sounds like a fun historical fiction.
I'd like to know more about this one! I loved The Devil in the White City, which was about the 1893 Chicago World's Fair.
