Weekly Reading Recap/IMWAYR?

Sheila at Book Journey hosts this weekly event where we celebrate what we are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week. I use this this weekly meme as a way to give short, concise thoughts on the books I've read.

This is the first week that I could consistently get outside to walk every day!  My flowers/plants survived the frost we experienced last week! Reading was very good to me both in print and audio.

Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:

The Escape by Mary Balogh
Major Sir Benedict Harper has spent the last six years recovering from his wounds suffered in the Peninsular Wars, three of those years were spent with his fellow survivors.  It has taken him that long to come to terms with his disability, and is now ready to find his way to a new life. While visiting with his sister he meets widow Samantha McKay, who is tired of her in-laws dictating how she should live her life. She finds out she is the owner of a cottage, immediately she plans an escape and Benedict goes along with her, as he figures this will be the perfect start to become a travel writer.  This is the third, but stands along well, book in the Survivor series.   Benedict and Samantha get along well, but were intent on being so independent that I did not feel their chemistry until the very end of the novel.  I enjoyed the appearance of the members of the survivor's club.  Flavion's story is next.

I Am The Weapon by Allen Zadoff
Zach is a teenager that calls himself "Boy Nobody", a boy no one would suspect.  He easily fits in as the new kid, and is able to carry out his assignment.  He is assigned to the Mayor of New York City.  Just as he is going to carry out his assignment, he hesitates, and shortly after the target is changed.  Fast paced,  full of action with very likeable characters.  First book in a new series.

Pure Heat by M.L. Buchman
Firefighting is the subject of this new series. Steve and Carly work together to fight fires. There is a lot of acronyms and jargon that was distracting, but I enjoyed learning about firefighting, and flying, and look forward to the next book in the series.

NYPD Red 2 by James Patterson and Marshall Karp
Elite task force Detectives Zach Jordan and Kyle MacDonald are back investigating a series of murders that are more than random.  They are under pressure from many sides to solve these murders.  Another page turning, entertaining novel from JP and Co.  I like both detectives and look forward to more from them.

Only Us by Susan Mallery
This is a Fool's Gold novella that features pet groomer Rina and Vet Cameron. Rina is also a nanny to Cameron's daughter.  She has fallen in love with them both and is tired of loving from them from afar.  She takes a risk and tells him how she feels.  How will he react? A quick, enjoyable read.

When We Met by Susan Mallery
Book 13 in the Fool's Gold series, but the first of a story arc. Taryn and Angel have agreed to a fun, no commitment fling.  Both have pasts that makes them confident enough to know this will not be a problem.  Or will it?  Love this series.
I will be hosting a giveaway for this book May 23rd
Magic Mourns by Ilona Andrews
This novella is from the anthology Must Love Hellhounds. Kate Daniels is on medical leave.  Andrea get the case and teams up with Raphael to find out why the three-headed dog that guards the gates of Hell has come to Atlanta.

Reading:
The Collector by Nora Roberts
Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews

Listening to:
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein (Morven Christie and Lucy Gaskell)
The Target by David Baldacci (Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy)
Saving Quinton by Jessica Sorensen (Stephanie Willis and Jed Drummond)

I loved Code Name Verity! That would be an interesting listening experience. I'll have to check out the audio sometime.

The Mary Balogh book sounds kind of good. I don't remember if I've read anything by her yet.

We finally had some nice weather, although it was still a little cool. I got to some yard work around the house this weekend though and that was nice.

I Am The weapon sounds interesting...

I like all your books. I especially would like to read Escape by Mary Balogh. Sir Benedict seems like an interesting character. I like the fact that he wants to do Travel writing. Mary Balogh is great at those Regency romances. I guess they're called Regency. Enjoy.

Goodness, you read a lot this week! Glad you enjoyed them, and got outside to walk. I have a park about 2 blocks from my new home, and have taken a few walks around it, and hope to get a chance to go every evening in this nice weather. Enjoy!
