Happy St. Patrick's Day. We are finally able to see some green! The snow is slowly melting and my lawn is showing.
Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:
River Road by Jayne Ann Krentz
Lucy has returned home to settle her Aunt's estate. Her Aunt Sarah and friend Mary were killed in a car accident. As soul heir she received her Aunt Sarah's property as well as Mary's share in her family's business. She quickly learns that there is more to the story than what she was initially told. She asks Mason to help her with a few upgrades before she sells the home. They discover something hidden in the chimney that sets off a chain reaction of events that kept me turning the pages.
From This Moment On by Bella Andre
Second book in the Sullivan series. Marcus is the oldest of eight kids, he's seen as the rock, leader, responsible one. I was looking forward to his story. Marcus and Nicola began their relationship a bit too cliche, as the story progressed, it got weirder. They each had hurts they had to work through to their happy ending. I will continue to read this series as I like the family.
The Double by George Pelecanos
Spero Lucas is hired to find and return a painting that was stolen from a woman by her former boyfriend. He learns there is more behind this theft and quickly becomes involved in hunting down the scam artists. As a former war veteran, Spero will take whatever steps necessary to get the job done which makes him such an interesting character. There are a couple of other cases that Spero is juggling along with a possible love interest. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
David By Grace Burrowes
The last book in the Lonely Lord series that finally gives David his HEA. He has reluctantly received as an inheritance a brothel. As a former physician he is caring, loyal and after learning of a family friend's dire circumstances offers her a job running the brothel. Letty accepts the job with conditions. Their HEA wrings the emotion right out of the reader.
The Bookstore by Deborah Meyler
Esme is working towards her PhD as a scholarship student at Columbia University. She meets and falls in love with Mitchell. Just as she reveals to him that she is pregnant, he breaks up with her. She takes a job at a small bookstore to supplement her scholarship. She is determined to do it all, finish her degree and be a great mom. At the bookstore she finds support and friendship with it's quirky inhabitants . A character driven debut that is delightful.
Perfect by Rachel Joyce
This book is best experienced without knowing a whole lot about the plot. It is told in two alternating POVs. Bryan's an 11 year old boy whose life is changed by an accident and middle-aged OCD challenged Jim. How the two POVs collide kept me glued to the pages in this heartbreaking, emotional novel.
Big Sky Secrets by Linda Lael miller (audio)
Final book of the Parable, Montana series. Landry has plans to sell his ranch to his brother Zane and return to the city. His neighbor will be glad to see him go soon before his escaping buffalo destroys her livelihood. Predictably they are attracted to each other and fight it, but lose their respective fights. The ending is a bit rushed. Jack Garrett narrates.
