What Are You Reading?

Sheila at Book Journey hosts this weekly event where we celebrate what we are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week. I use this this weekly meme as a way to give short, concise thoughts on the books I've read.

Thank you for all your kind words of comfort and sympathy last week on the passing of my mother-in-law.  The Olympics are definitely taking me from my nightly reading.

Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:

Providence by Jamie McGuire
Nina's father has just died of an apparent accident.  She is struggling with her grief, staying in school, and she keep running into the same man.  She is intrigued by this man, but knows something is strange.  The story quickly draws you in and the mystery of Jared and how his family is involved with Nina's is slowly revealed.  Looking forward to book #2.

The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson
Another heartbreaking, exquisite story from this author. This one is about PTSD, and how it involves more than the one suffering. High school student Hayley has been taking care of her dad for the last 5 years, they have returned home to settle in for what they hope is a normal life.  Nothing is remotely normal for this family as they walk this road.  Highly recommend this YA book.

Love, Water, Memory by Jennie Shortridge
Lucie is standing in the bay, not knowing how she got there.  Right away we are pulled into Lucie and Grady's story. Each of them has a past that is a bit of a mystery that tugs at the heartstrings.  Past and present come together in a satisfying story.

Must Love Dukes by Elizabeth Michels
Lily engages in behavior that is unbecoming a lady to retrieve a pocket watch that her brother sold. Little does she know the man in possession of the item is known as the Mad Duke. She is blackmailed to help the Duke in his schemes in order to preserve her reputation. The revenge he wants backfires. A fun debut book and good beginning to the Tricks of the Ton series.

It seems everyone liked Love Water Memory more than I did (except for my mother-sheliked it less)! Off to put Providence on my wish list. Looks good.
