What Are You Reading?

Sheila at Book Journey hosts this weekly event where we celebrate what we are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week.

Another great week of reading for me.  I am getting caught up with  my reading now that the summer of wedding fun is over, and my back recovery is going so well.

Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:

Second Honeymoon by James Patterson and Howard Roughan

FBI Agent John O'Hara is on the case of honeymooners being targeted by a killer. Special Agent Sarah Brubaker is working on a case with victims having something unique in common. A twisty page turner as the crime/murder sprees come together. I knew this would be a perfect book to pick up to get myself over the hump of my back issues. As always, JP and HR kept me entertained and satisfied. I hope these two characters will return soon.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman (audio)

Do yourself a favor and listen this book brilliantly read by the author. Beautifully written, magical, emotional and a bit spooky.  After attending a funeral in his hometown, the narrator returns to his neighborhood and begins to remember what happened when he was seven.  Don't learn anymore than that before you get into the story!

The Arrangement by Mary Balogh

Book two in the Survivor's Club series.  Vincent Hunt lost his sight in battle.  He feels suffocated by his well meaning family, and decides to "run away".  He returns to his boyhood home and meets Sophia.  She intervenes to rescue him and is thrown out of her guardian's home.  Vincent proposes an arrangement.  What follows is tender and funny as these characters find friendship, freedom and love.

A Hundred Summers by Beatriz Williams

Summer in Rhode Island in the late 30s. Secrets, betrayals, and lies all between family and friends makes this novel, intertwined with past and present,  a delight. Do not begin this book unless you have hours ahead of you!

The Best of Friends by Susan Mallery (audio)
Jayne at age 15 was taken in by the Wordens after her mother (the housekeeper) dies.  Rebecca has always been her best friend and David her crush.  She has been loyal to Elizabeth, even if she takes terrible advantage of Jayne .  David is back and sees Jayne as more than a friend, and things change drastically.  Wow, talk about a character you love to hate (Elizabeth).  A fun book narrated by Rene Raudman

Death Angel by Linda Fairstein
Alexandra Cooper, Mike Chapman and Mercer Wallace are investigating a body found in Central Park. The leads they follow connect to other perps/cases and connections are followed. A scandal threatens Alex and Mike. I can't wait to start a new Linda Fairstein book because I love how she integrates New York's history within the story. The character's personal lives are just as interesting as the crime in this book and I can't wait to see what happens next for Alexandra and Mike.

Up Next:
Her Last Breath by Linda Castillo
Songs of Willow Frost by Jamie Ford
Lady Jenny's Christmas Portrait by Grace Burrowes

Other Book Thoughts Posted:
Double Feature by Owen King
The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorenson

One of my coworkers is listening to the audio of The Ocean at the End of the Lane and she is really enjoying it. She has described some of the creepy scenes to me and I'm not sure I could handle it! Maybe the print version would be better for me than the audio!

The Best of Friends sounds like a book I'd really like and I have A Hundred Summers on my TBR pile.

Taken a break from the posts but like visiting the blogs. You've done a lot of reading this week.

Such a nice variety of books. I am most interested in the one by Balogh. I haven't read a historical romance for a long time. Come see my Monday Report if you get a chance. Happy reading!

You did indeed have a fabulous reading week. I have the Ocean at the End of the Lane in print but from previous audio I know Neil Gaiman has a voice like warm honey, I'm kicking myself for not going with the audio. The Best of Friends and A Hundred Summers sound like my type of reads too.
Have another great week and happy reading :)

I have yet to read anything by Neil Gaiman...but The Ocean at the End of the Lane looks really good.

Thanks for the tip to listen to the Neil Gaiman more so than read it. I don't do audios except once in a blue moon, but will consider this one. I have an old Linda Fairstein on my kindle from a long time ago and never read it. I read such mixed reviews about her books, but I trust your opinion so maybe I will read it and see how it goes. Thanks for all this.

I have never read Gaiman either, but I've heard a lot of good things... never thought of getting the audio, but I could fit it in that way while driving. Thanks for the good idea :)

These all look to me but I am so far behind on my review books I had better not add any more temptations to my wish list. :)

Several of those books look really good to me. I really want to read The Ocean at the End of the Lane soon.

I've only read one book by Gaiman, but I hear so many great things about Ocean at the End of the Lane that it might be time for another!

I had to comment here even if a week late! You had some good reads and I appreciate the encouragement to listen to Neil Gaiman. I like Mary Balogh too.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Ok, I just put the Gaiman book on hold at the library. I've been wanting to read him forever and I like to listen to author read their own work. Now, if I can just get through The Passage!
