Those We Love Most

On a warm June day, Maura Corrigan is walking with her nine-year-old son, James, as he rides his bike to school when the unthinkable happens. He darts on to the street and is hit by Alex, a 17-year-old neighbor. What unfolds in the wake of the accident is an intricate web of relationships, secrets, and betrayals that ultimately create a story of resilience.

Told through the perspectives of two generations within the family, THOSE WE LOVE MOST chronicles how an unimaginable sudden twist of fate forces each family member to confront their choices, examine their mistakes, and fight for their most valuable relationships. It raises the age-old question: Why do we hurt the ones we love?”

This is a character driven story about the impact of a devastating loss on a family.  It causes each member to re-evaluate their lives, choices, and decide whether changes are warranted.  It took me a long time to listen to this book.  I had to set it aside for a month due to it being emotional and consuming at a time when I did not need it.  I hoped that when I picked it up again I would react better. I have really liked everything that Karen White narrated, but just could not connect to this narration.  I thought it was a bit whinny and drawn out.  I may have had a better reaction had I read it in print.

This sounds like a very good book, with that wonderful question at the end. Why Do we hurt the ones we love?

I would definitely put this on my TBR list because I need to know how their lives are connected besides the tragic accident!

Something I would normally read but I have to pick a time when I'm not feeling 'fragile' lol and if I pick it up I'll make sure it's in print not audio. Thanks Nise
