What Are You Reading?

Sheila at Book Journey hosts this weekly event where we celebrate what we are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week.

Last week was a great reading week.  I read six books (4 adult, 2 YA) and one audio.   I feel like my reading mojo is back and I hope it is here to stay.

Thoughts on the Books I Read Last Week:

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green (audio)
Hazel Grace meets Augustus in a teen cancer support group. This is much more than a story about cancer and dying.  It is funny, uplifting, raw, and heartbreakingly life affirming.  I listened to Kate Rudd as she made this story come alive with emotion and had me glued to  my iPod! This book resonated with me after recently going through the illness and death of my father-in-law. I can't believe I waited this long to experience this gem.  Note to self: Do not finish this book right before going out!

Call The Shots by Don Calame

This is the third book about a trio of high school boys.  I laughed myself silly all the way through it.  Could Sean's life get any worse? His 2 best friends have hot girlfriends, he doesn't; his twin sister is convinced and wants to convince him that he is gay (not true), his mom just announced that a miracle has occurred, she's pregnant and he will have to share a room with his sister.  Coop (his friend) comes up with the idea to raise money to add a bedroom onto the house. The plan is a good one, but things don't always work out as planned.

Dare Me By Megan Abbot

These are some scary cheerleaders.  They will seemingly do anything to be at the top of their sport. Even though I did like not any of these characters, it was a compelling read that I could not put down wanting to know just who and how far would she/they go.  I would not be surprised if this story ended up on TV. Another winning Regan Arthur book.

This Is Not A Drill by Beck McDowell

High school seniors, Emery and Jack are tutoring first graders in french.  Emery is not happy about this assignment as Jack is her former boyfriend.  One morning a student's dad shows up and tries to take his son out of class.  What happens next is told in alternating chapters in Emery and Jack's voice. A thought provoking, timely debut.

A big read week for sure. I'm still reading "The Storyteller" by Picoult. Knowing people actually went through the horror of the Holocaust makes it a tough read for me. Well written as we expect from Picoult.

Hahah I agree that you SHOULD NOT finish TFIOS before going out. I was a mess after reading it, luckily I wasn't going anywhere. Glad you enjoyed it.

Good luck on the rest of your reads!
