But when her brother is suddenly kicked out of Harvard under mysterious circumstances and falls under the sway of a strange young woman, Sibyl turns for help to psychology professor Benton Jones, despite the unspoken tensions of their shared past. As Benton and Sibyl work together to solve a harrowing mystery, their long-simmering spark flares to life, and they realize that there may be something even more magical between them than a medium’s scrying glass.
After thoroughly enjoying this author's first book, I looked forward to this one. The author did a good job of weaving this family's story together (Lan's, Eulah and Helen's and Sybil's), as well as the historical aspects, however, it was nowhere near as wonderful as the first book. Sybil as the main character was a bit annoying, but the story was intriguing enough to overlook my feelings. The last third of the book got much better and I was glad I stuck with it. The narrator did a good job with each character. I especially enjoyed the seance sections.Author: Katherine Howe

I love historical mysteries and the time period for this one. I need to read Katherine Howe's debut novel first. It's lost in my TBR pile. :)
I loved the first book as well. Do you think your would have enjoyed the print version more (Ie: making the annoying character less annoying that way?)
Maybe I will just pass on this one
How disappointing that the second one didn't hold up to the first.
Always disappointing when the second book isn't as magical as the first.
Wonderful cover and interesting time period. It struck me how much the woman on the cover looks like a young Queen Elizabeth, or her daughter Princess Anne. I know it's not but just the way my mind is working today I guess. Happy reading. I love your rating system. :)
I have had the first book on my shelf for what seems like eternity. I'm glad that you stuck with it though and overall you enjoyed it.
I'm planning on reading this one in print.
I have both of her books and have yet to get to them even though I'd like to. I have heard the first book is better though. I really like the cover on this one.
