The Violets of March by Sarah Jio- I was glued to the pages of this book for an evening. The author did a fantastic job of weaving both stories together causing you to care about characters in the past as well as the present. I often was on the edge wanting to get back to the "red diary" to find out what happened next. I loved the setting as it is a place I've visited many times. A wonderful debut novel, and I will not wait as long to get to her second novel.
The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach - This story of family, friends, relationships, love and
loss centers around college baseball, but it is much more than a baseball
story. You get so caught up with the characters and their lives. It is
humorous, touching with a little heartbreak an over all brilliant debut.
Narrated superbly by Holter Graham
The Gilly Salt Sisters by Tiffany Baker - This book has everything I like in a
story, generational secrets, complicated sister relationships with
messy romantic interests, greed, betrayal, and a setting that makes for an
entertaining read.
Celebrity in Death by J.D. Robb - It amazes me that after 32 books of the "In Death"
series, I am still interested and invested in these characters. Eve Dallas is
doing what she does best - investigating, ferreting out clues and making an
arrest. The murder is centered around a movie that is being filmed about one of
Eve's famous cases.

Oh man - I've had a copy of Violets of March on my shelf FOREVER! I seriously need to read that!
I've seen Cinders on several pages today--it must be good.
Cinder is something I am currently reading. So far I like it quite a bit.
The more I see how many people listed Cinder in their BEA best of posts, I yearn for the book I won that never arrived... :-( Now I'm going to have to buy it.
I just saw another book by Satah JIo. I am curious about her storytelling. And now seeing you list The Violets of March has made it solid in my mind...I will read a book by Jio this summer. the Violets of March sounds like a good starting place.
Cinder has been on my TBR list for awhile now. I need to get my hands on that book. Maybe I should buy it...maybe.
My daughter just bought The Art of Fielding - now I don't know whether to read her copy or go for the audio!
I adored Violets of March, too...and her next one, The Bungalow, which made my list.
I read Violets last year, so I couldn't count it this year.
Have a great week!
I too love it when a book surprises you with how good it is. Cinder was a favorite for me too :). Great list!
I don't think I've ever really read a book about baseball... Definitely going to check out The Art of Fielding.
I really want to try the first and Cinder :D
Your reviews of Robb's books had me requesting book one on audio. I almost picked up Art of Fielding but it's huge!! Maybe I'll use a credit for audible.com??
I'm so jealous about your many trips to Bainbridge Island!
I haven't had the chance to read any of these ones, but I've been just so excited to read Cinder, so I'm glad to hear you loved it so much! :D
Thanks for sharing your Best of 2012 post! I didn't write one, but I did post a giveaway. :)
