The Wolves of Andover

In the harsh wilderness of colonial Massachusetts, Martha Allen arrives to work as a servant in her cousin's household. Stubborn and opinionated, Martha soon takes charge and matches will with everyone around her, including Thomas Carrier, the hired worker known both for his immense strength and size and mysterious past. The two begin a courtship that suits their independent natures, with Thomas slowly revealing the story of his part in the English Civil War. But in the rugged new world they inhabit, danger is ever present, whether it be from the assassins sent from London to kill the suspected executioner of Charles I or the wolves—in many forms—who hunt for blood.

A powerful love story and a pulse-pounding tale of historical adventure and intrigue, The Wolves of Andover confirms Kathleen Kent's ability to craft powerful stories of family from colonial history.

There were times when the story flowed and times when it got bogged down and began to lose my attention. I would have preferred the storyline of Martha and Thomas to continue, but understand the need of his back story.  I loved the story of the early colonists protecting their own.  This is a prequel to The Heretic's Daughter, which I have not read, and wonder if I would have loved this book rather than just liking it, had I read it first.

I'm sorry you didn't like it as much as you hoped too, although I'm sure the story of the early colonist was quite interesting. I wonder if it's a good idea to read The Heretic's Daughter first? I'm going to keep that in mind if I decide to read this book.

As weird as this sounds, I'm reading blogs while I'm ripping my Wolves of Andover CDs to mp3. I haven't read any of the books in the series. Hoping my experience is better than yours.

I've checked out Heretic's Daughter on two separate occasions and never got to reading it...I think I'll try that one first as I've read tons of positive reviews for it and mixed ones on this one.

I did not realize this was such a short book (sorry it was not better). I liked Heretic's Daughter.
