The Winter Sea

History has all but forgotten…
In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next bestselling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write.
But when she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction, Carrie wonders if she might be dealing with ancestral memory, making her the only living person who knows the truth—the ultimate betrayal—that happened all those years ago, and that knowledge comes very close to destroying her…

I admire authors who are able to tell a story within a story and keep me interested in both. Susanna does it very well. The transition between past and present is easy to read. I did find myself (I hope at the author's intent) wanting to stay longer in the past, especially at the end as I was dying to know if I would get the ending I wanted. Did I get it? You will have to read the book to find out.

This one sounds intriguing...I like the "story within a story" too.

Do you know what ever happened to Vicki, at Reading at the Beach? The A-Z Wednesdays?

Glad to hear this was good -- it's been on my radar. I too like stories within stories when well done.

I loved this book so much! I think it is fair that Susanna Kearsley is my favourite recent discovery in terms of authors and I have been glomming her books ever since!
