On the eve of his death, Enzo takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through: the sacrifices Denny has made to succeed professionally; the unexpected loss of Eve, Denny's wife; the three-year battle over their daughter, Zoë, whose maternal grandparents pulled every string to gain custody. In the end, despite what he sees as his own limitations, Enzo comes through heroically to preserve the Swift family, holding in his heart the dream that Denny will become a racing champion with Zoë at his side.
I can't believe that it took me this long to read Garth Stein's wonderfully written, emotional, laugh out-loud, heartwarming book! I loved it that is was told by Enzo, the family dog. I always knew that dogs were smarter than they are given credit for!

I tried to read this book but got so sad and upset :(
I loved this book, and the audio version was terrific as well.
I have this on my shelf and I just know it's going to make me cry. I have to wait util the time is right. Good review :)
I've heard such good things about this one. For some reason books with dogs in them like this one always make me happy and sad at the same time so I have to be prepared, mentally before I read it.
I need to get my hands on a copy of this one. Maybe I should read it out loud to Bruce?? LOL!!
oh, the thing about the thumbs almost sold me...but I get so upset at sad dog books...like he dies...
but it sounds good...what to do, what to do...
;-)
This book is one of my all time favorites! I just loved this book.
I resisted this book for ages and then cried all the way through - but I loved it!
This tempts me but sometimes I can't really get into an animal narrator. We'll see...
