BBAW - Giveaway #3

Today's giveaway is The Turnaround by George Pelecanos

On a hot summer afternoon in 1972, three teenagers drove into an unfamiliar neighborhood and six lives were altered forever.
Thirty five years later, one survivor of that day reaches out to another, opening a door that could lead to salvation. But another survivor is now out of prison, looking for reparation in any form he can find it.

THE TURNAROUND takes us on a journey from the rock-and-soul streets of the '70s to the changing neighborhoods of D.C. today, from the diners and auto garages of the city to the inside of Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital, where wounded men and women have returned to the world in a time of war. A novel of fathers and sons, wives and husbands, loss, victory and violent redemption, THE TURNAROUND is another compelling, highly charged novel from George Pelecanos, "the best crime novelist in America." -Oregonian.

This is a new, soft-cover book.

I was born in 1972 but don't really recall much of the 70's. I think I enjoyed Kindergarten though!

I was definitely around in the seventies...they were MY TIME! lol

My best recollections include that whole "peace and love" thing, along with the scent of incense, anti-war marches, black light posters...and MORE! Several of my novels include "sense memories" of the seventies!

Platform shoes and mini skirts. I had a white pair I could hardly stand up in. The mini skirts were kind of embarrassing in high school especially when you had a bottom locker. :0

I wasn't born until the mid seventies, so obviously, I don't remember much from that era. Some of the music from then is pretty cool, though. Thanks!

I was young, but I remember really big bell bottoms, my dad had a sweet burgundy suit with really wide lapels, and my mom's crazy long dresses. So the fashion. But I wouldn't want to wear it.

Thanks for sharing.

I was young too, but I remember my babysitter had a bright yellow Buick Skylark. She had the long, straight hair everyone seemed to covet and dated (and eventually married) the guy who lived next door to us. I remember thinking I wanted to be that cool in highschool, but being the 80's, I'm pretty sure I wasn't! Thanks for the entry!

I was born just before the 70's. From the 70s I remember The Mickey Mouse Club on TV (" M - I - C - See you real soon - K - E - Y - Why? Because we like you! M - O - U - S - E!") LOL This cracks me up! (yep, I'm a dork!)

Thank you for the trip down memory lane! And for a great giveaway, I love Pelecanos' books!

I was born in 72 so I can only remember a limited amount from the 70's...I do remember Tootsie Pop Drops!! Yummy! I remember drinking out of aluminum glasses and an aluminum tea pitcher. I remember Lawrence Welk and Fraggle Rock on tv. Toilet paper and tissues came in blue, green, pink etc. I also remember that laundry soap came in this HUGE box full of powder!! Like 14 pounds maybe? and it took like a whole cup worth or something, lol to do one load of clothes. Weird! I also remember that Nutter Butter cookies were shaped like peanuts (which of course made them taste better). Body on Tap shampoo( I think it had beer in it). Sweet Honesty perfume from Avon, which my sisters and I were allowed to wear to church on Sundays and Wednesdays. Hmm, I guess I remember more than I thought.
Oh and by the way, please enter me! Thanks for the great giveaway and the trip down memory lane. I enjoyed reading others comments.
