Book Through Thursday

Today's Question:
We’ve all seen the lists, we’ve all thought, “I should really read that someday,” but for all of us, there are still books on “The List” that we haven’t actually gotten around to reading. Even though we know they’re fabulous. Even though we know that we’ll like them. Or that we’ll learn from them. Or just that they’re supposed to be worthy. We just … haven’t gotten around to them yet.

What’s the best book that YOU haven’t read yet?

I have a large to be read list and I wonder if these have been on it this long because I really have no intention of reading them?!:

Harry Potter Series (only read the 1st book)
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Great Expectations – Charles Dickens

Besides these four books, what should we be reading?

I've read the first two listed
should read the third
read the last--I didn't like it.

I think the Harry Potter series was a bit over rated, but probably still worth reading, so that you know what's going on.

Lord of the Rings bored me - I only managed the first book! I quite enjoyed Great Expectations, so recommend you give that a go.

I haven't read any of the Russian classics, so would love to read a few - there are too many books, and not enough timw!

I sort of wonder the same thing about a lot of my TBR list - maybe I should do some editing. But I read the first Harry Potter book last year and I think I'm pretty positive I won't be reading the rest of the series.

I can't speak to the others on the list, but I'm pretty sure that once you get going on the HP series, you'll read them really quickly. They'll easily chop a couple thousand pages off your TBR without too much work.

Crime and Punishment and Bleak House are in my sights too. Nice list!

I couldn't get through the first Harry Potter book. I'm sure they got better in time. I read Great Expectations along with my son. I won't be reading Lord of the Rings, but I do own the DVD's. One day, I'll get around to them.

I loved HP and LOtR. I read Crime and Punishment in college -- and basically don't remember it. Great Expectations, I read in high school and I vividly remember some scenes. So I guess Dickens stuck with me better than Dostoyevsky!

OH....I knew there were other great books that I forgot to mention -- like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Now I feel I need to make an addendum :)

Thanks for commenting on my site!

I can't read LotR. I've tried. I can't even stay awake to watch the movies.

Have you read The Brothers Karamazov? I really preferred it to Crime and Punishment.

I'll probably never read the Harry Potter books either. My daughter read the first two and decided that was enough for her (she's 11).

Hi Nise'
A remarkable thing I've discovered with BTT this week is how many people (including me) want to (still have to) read Dostoyevsky's 'Crime and Punishment'
I hope you get to it (and the rest) one day soon.
Warmest
Rob

Hi!
I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books or Lord of the Rings. Have seen all three of the Lord of the Rings movies. Thanks for stopping by my place. Have a great day!!

Harry Potter is very good (especially when you get past the first couple of books) - the books are better than the movies in my opinion.

I read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings a couple of years ago, and really enjoyed them all.

I would recommend Jane Austen to you. I just discovered her (that sounds so funny!)

I've never read Lord of the Rings either. I think I've only read the first 3 or 4 of Harry Potter. I loved them, but never got around the others.

Good list. I've read all except for Crime and Punishment. One of these years, though - when I'm in the mood. :) Thanks for visiting on BTT

I have never read any Dickens or Steinbeck, so I guess one of those. I read LTR and it was okay. Book 2 was tough. I read Potter 5,6,7, and they were fantastic. The woman can write, I'll give her credit.
I have read some books, that "Everyone should read", and they are not always all that they purport to be, at least to me :)

I read the last 2. I think they are worth reading.

Dostoyevsky's on my TBR list too. I love Dickens & Tolkien & Austen - recommend them to you. If you're reading the classics what about Tolstoy? War and Peace and Anna Karenina are on my list.
