Quick Reviews

Anathema by Colleen Coble
Book Synopses: Even though she knows her Amish parents would disapprove, Hannah Schwartz slips away to meet her boyfriend, Reece Ericson. When she returns home, Hannah discovers that her parents have been murdered and their prized handmade quilts stolen! Years later, a shunned Hannah returns to the scene. Can her family---and her faith---be restored?

Honestly Amish related fiction has never been a favorite of mine, not sure really why. It could be that I have not given enough books a chance. Because I love Colleen, I gave this book a try and loved it! I was hooked right away and could not put it down!

A Promise To Remember by Kathryn Cushman
Andie Phelps is the envy of Santa Barbara. A devoted mother with a loving son and a successful husband, her greatest joy comes from reaching out to others. Melanie Johnston is the envy of no one. A single mom who works long hours to pay the bills, and her greatest joys relate to her teen daughter and son. Then the accident that changes everything. When opposite worlds collide, the impact reaches far beyond these mothers’ personal losses. Two wounded women…Two families seeking hope…A community torn apart… How far will they go to fulfill A Promise to Remember?

This was an intriguing story that held my attention. I got involved with the characters, liked and hated them at the same time. When I finished the book at first I was a bit disappointed at the "happy, everything worked out" ending, thinking it did not reflect "real life". Days later, I have changed my mind because I have not stopped thinking about the story, the characters and that God can and will work in impossible situations.

Happy Thanksgiving!!
